What is wrong with eating Anchovies?

I'm thinking that anchovy stuffed olives will be more enjoyable then straight from the tin. I already eat olives anyway.

What do you guys think?

I like canned fish a good bit, but I don't think I'd enjoy just eating anchovy fillets from the can. Too strong, and too salty. Needs something to blend away the flavor. Why the anchovy kick all the sudden?

Most people don't eat anchovies straight from the can. There's good reason why. It's way too salty to eat straight. It's meant to be used in cooking as topping on a pizza, to make sauce for pasta, or to make Caesar dressing. I have anchovies packed in olive oil in my pantry. But I'm not dumb enough to eat straight. I use it to make Caesar dressing. And when I'm in the mood, I dissolve the anchovies in a pan with olive oil, garlic slices and red pepper flakes to toss with the pasta. If you want to eat fish in a can, eat sardines, kipper, mackerel, salmon, etc. Those fishes are not salty and meant to be eaten straight from the can.

I think this is getting ridiculous.

Anchovies are not something I will eat.

When I eat fish it is baked or fried. I will have a can of salmon every now and then.

There's nothing wrong with that but you have weird obsession with certain food items that you latch on to. It's very odd behavior.
Well I'm not sure if I can get Pizza with anchovies where I live, so I will have to try something else.

After I mentioned the that I used to eat Pizza with them, I started craving that.

Just make your own pizza at home topped with anchovies. Pizza is real simple to make from scratch. If you're lazy and don't want to make your own dough, you can cheat and make french bread pizza by slicing french bread in half. Or naan bread pizza. Pita bread pizza. Tortilla pizza. Etc.

You don't even need pizza. You could add anchovies to meatball sub or any heated sandwich. The goal is to infuse the food with the oily and the salty fishy flavor/taste of anchovy. That is if you really truly like anchovy. My guess is you like the idea and thought of eating anchovy more than the actual taste as you seem very unfamiliar with its use and how it actually tastes.

Anchovies are nothing more than small fish. It's similar to sardines. And like sardines, it varies in size.

Here's side dish of small dried seasoned anchovies with walnut, egg battered fried Spam, and seasoned fishcakes. I guarantee even non fish lover would like this seasoned anchovy dish if they tried it. It's sweet, salty, and savory all in one. Same thing with fried Spam. People think Spam is gross when they have no idea how to cook it.

that looks like a bigass bowl of tapeworms

True Marinara sauce contains anchovies. That's why it is called "Marinara".

that's a weird claim these days, but I guess it makes sense...ocean is actually in the name.

I've never known a fancy, local, Tuscan marinara to contain anything but tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, basil, and some other bits, but that is definitely a Tuscan thing (there are other anchovie-based sauces and dishes, but it is not what you would get in that region when ordering a marinara). I would bet that Northern, Southern, and certainly south-central (Rome) parts of Italy would have a marinara that contains a fish base. ....I just know it as a different type of dish.

Like I said, I only had it on pizza and in sauces.

They included 2 anchovies on the salad itself? The anchovies should be used to make the dressing at your table side and not included whole on the salad. The best Caesar salad I ever had was in Mexico and they brought out all the salad ingredients on a cart and the waiter made the dressing right in front of me with the anchovies and egg yolks and assembled the salad. The romaine heart lettuce should be whole leaves and not chopped up.

It was also IN the dressing as well -- the 2 sitting atop the salad were just an added bonus 😎

Well I did a check online and the local Domino's near where I live does offer Anchovies as a topping. I wouldn't get them by themselves, but with other toppings as well.
