Some companies will reward you for loyalty if you simply ask. I called my credit card company a few months ago and asked for a rate reduction and they obliged.

The one thing that sucked about my brothers smartphone w/o a data plan... picture messaging did not work. They told me if I wanted that, i'd have to unblock data, and pay at the metered rate or get a plan.

but yeah, I would like a smartphone w/o a data plan so I can have a decent PDA/multimedia device. Basically, I'd be happy with an iphone w/o the data plan. or with a cheap email only plan if they offered it.

I don't expect it. Verizon sends me cards with special offers, they are the ones who tell me I can get these offers. I am just trying to see how good of an offer I can expect to get from them since I'm sure they don't send me every offer available to me.

Lol, what? So checking with a company to see if they have any special offers for long time customers is "demanding special treatment?" You really sound like a car salesman's best friend.

My Verizon contract is up next month, and I fully intend to inform them that I will move to another (cheaper) company if they can't give me some kind of deal. But I guess that's the "Idiotic way".

The truth comes out, you're one of those cynical customer service types. Why didn't you just say so?

And you have yet to explain what's wrong with trying to find out if a company has any other special offers or deals. I'm going to guess you buy only Saturns because negotiating the price of a vehicle down would make you an "entitlement person".

What I'm trying to say here, and I should've done it in my first post, is accept what you qualify for. Don't go whining to try and get something "better" just because you "pay your bill" or "want to cancel".


Edit: No, haggling down the price of a car isn't what would make me an "entitlement person", demanding the upgraded radio or leather seats on a new Ford for free because I'm a prior Ford owner would, however, which is basically the car equivalent to what cell phone customers want.

Is there a phone out there that you can connect to your computer/laptop via usb and browse the internet? if so would the 29.99 package include this ability or would the unlimited data be the plan you'd have to get for that.

There's serveral phones that allow for tethering, but you need a tethering feature on top of the unlimited internet feature which brings the cost up.

Yup. T-mobile just launched 3G in major cities. Most of the country is still on EDGE. And AFAIK there's no 3G wireless card available for laptops yet. T-mobile is hopelessly lost when it comes to internet.

By comparison, I believe Verizon has the best wireless internet service in the country.

after sprint.. sprints is much faster and available everywhere I go.

My Verizon plan, after my 20% corporate discount, is only $56 a month. I get 450 anytime, unlimited night and weekend, unlimited texting, unlimited data, and mobile email. Only thing I don't have is the GPS on my Dare...

It is the same price as Verizon, but both are $10 more for the plan I'd get(Family Basic 700) from Tmobile.
