what's your budget?
what are your interests?
there's a reason why NYC is one of the tourism capitals of the planet but your question is a little broad.
i can answer it with "what isn't there to do in NYC?"
Don't really have a fixed budget right now, but I'd say a few hundred (excluding hotel costs) maybe for those 5 days.
I might just catch a Knicks game if there's one scheduled during my time of stay, I've always wanted to see an NHL/NBA game at Madison Square.
I guess I basically just wanna tour the city and try out some nice restaurants.
empire state building
ground zero
chinatown
little italy
nyse(though i don't know if they allow tours anymore)
statue of liberty
central park
metropolitan museum of art(i think the rooftop bar will be open by then)
museum of natural history
moma
gugghenheim museum(sp?)
many broadway shows
UN building
battery park
south street seaport
helicopter tour of city
circleline/ferry tour around island
yankee stadium
madison square garden
west village/NYU area
times square
rockefeller center
david letterman show at the ed sullivan theatre
carnegie hall
lincoln center(they have ballroom dancing in the big plaza during the summer)
les paul at the iridium
korea town
little india
this is just a sampling of some of the things you can do here.
is this a couple's thing or a rowdy bunch of guys thing?
