What is the worst position to play in professional sports?

I'd have to say either NFL running back or MLB catcher.

RB - Get pounded to hell and back once per week each season. I can't even imagine the pain these guys go through.

C - Spend 2 hours per day squatting in an awkward position, 162 game regular season + all of playoffs and spring training.

My top choices as well. Catcher was the immediate one that came to mind.

They are always the first to age out in their career. Though, I guess it is also quite rare for a hard-throwing pitcher to maintain long careers. Ryan, Johnson, Clemens were rather rare individuals. Well...one of those dudes had some help. :whiste:

The average NFL RB career is something like 1-2 seasons, right, and probably less? Hall of famers are lucky to get 5 good seasons. Then you have the extremely rare Walter Peyton and Emmit Smith and well, I think Adrian Peterson is hitting that class of age/production, as well.

Something that's dangerous and doesn't pay well, which rules out all the major professional sports.

Like one of those Red Bull mountain bikers or something. They crash and break crap and don't earn much cash. Maybe a motocross guy.

professional wrestlers (non-star)

sport or performance art? either way it's gotta suck

constantly on the road, yet having to maintain your physique and the constant abuse you endure

the constant pressure to bulk up and to perform injured leads to massive steroid and pain-killer abuse

Anything that doesn't pay well, which rules out the four major sports; even if you're a benchwarmer in the NFL, you're getting over $400,000 annually. Major League Soccer players apparently can make a minimum of under $40,000. That's a little embarrassing, no?

team level professional cyclist. They run in the wind the whole race so the star can sprint at the end.

Special teams players have it worse than RBs. Gunners always get concussions. I played ST in JC and I am still sore.

I would say professional volley ball player. There are no sponsors and if you aren't winning tournaments, you aren't getting paid. Being so good you are in the top 1% of your sport and still having to work a real job to pay rent must be fucking rough.

If you aren't getting paid, then you aren't really a professional.

Besides, volleyball is a joke. To be in the top 1% of that sport is to be better than 14 other people who care.
