Cafe Americano is as close to "american coffee" as you can get in italy. I didn't go up to the bar and tell them I wanted American Coffee. That's what "Cafe Americano" is supposed to be the equivalent of though.

They already said what "Cafe Americano" is: 2 shots of espresso with hot water. I'm not sure what there is to argue about. They serve nothing but espresso in Italy apparently, congratulations. If you guys knew what you were talking about the conversation would've been over a page ago. Out of laziness I just use regular drip coffee. I tried the espresso this or French press that at home for awhile and you all too will probably grow out of the hassle of it. Honestly there isn't much difference if you drink it everyday.

Anyway the worst coffee I've ever had is scorched Starbucks from a cafeteria. Second worst is anything hazelnut flavored. Good at first but by the end of it, it's pretty miserable.

Starbucks Via.

That stuff is terrible. I know instant coffee isn't supposed to be gourmet, but other brands like Nescafe Taster's Choice are alright in a pinch. Via is just nasty, and it's not that cheap, either.

Hate coffee, but my wife is a coffee expert. She claims the best coffee is at Costco-the green bagged Kirkland brand "Starbucks Roasted" beans that are around $10 for 2lbs.

Worst she's had was "Chock Full of Nuts". Tasted like dirt.

yeah, never been a huge fan of standard coffee at Tim's

however, their specialty beverages are pretty tasty.

military coffee. it comes in a silver #10 can that you needs a can opener to open and using a p30 sucks.

home brew: Target's store-brand (Archer Farms?)... tried several different varieties, and they all tasted super chemical-y.

store-made: definitely Starbucks for their burnt flavor offerings.

surprised at all the anti-Dunkins hate... it's not the place I'd go to when I want to actually savor a cup of coffee, but I find them good enough when I just want some cheap caffeine quickly while I'm rushing into work.

re: dunkins

It's cuz east coast expats go to west coast and proclaim "omg no dunkins here, dunkins was da best" and then west coast people go to the east coast and have some, and then wonder WTF WAS THIS HYPE"

it's like in n out syndrome, with coffee.

every dunkins i've been to is consistently bad coffee. i would say 3/5 times at starbucks i get a good brew of coffee. really depends on who's working.

Huh what? There's plenty of Dunkins in SD, I lived 2 blocks from one up til a year and a half ago.

Of course I wouldn't blame them for giving LA miss...

My grandma used to get that - I expect that if you gathered the butts and ashes from 30 cheap cigarettes and dripped hot water through it, that would taste about the same as the silver can military coffee.

Dunkin Donuts is definitely the worst coffee I've had in the categories of any restaurant, coffee shop, donut shop, or gas station. Their home brew is atrocious, too.

I almost always get Folger's or Maxwell house, whatever is on sale. The worst I've had home brew was probably some extremely old Maxwell House from the back of my cabinets that I drank one day because I ran out of coffee. It was probably like 5+ years old. I think I even made a thread on it or a post on it here somewhere.

The story of Dunkin Donuts in LA/OC goes something like they were here 20 years ago, left for 18 years, and came back to Santa Monica last year or the year before that to great fanfare (i'm talking line around the block status).

Can't speak for SD.

i had some bad beans, i had some mediocre but extremely overpriced beans, but all in all what matters is how you prepare it. that .. really messes up the coffee.

It's only the worst because it's so flippin' expensive. Is it really any worse than cheap market stuff? Probably not. But it is pretty terrible.

And coffee doesn't need sugar Cappuccino. Talk about irony!

starbucks for straight up coffee is only marginally more expensive than coffee at non-gas station stops.

starbucks for frappuccinos/lattes/the like are pretty damn expensive, but people are gonna pay it so whatever.

and: free refills with starbucks card = starbucks coffee is really cheap for coffee addicts.
