in terms of quality products.

japan is known for cars and electronics.
italy is known for exotics and fashion/clothing.
cuba is known for cigars.
colombia is known for coffee.
china is known for lead toys and tainted milk.

what is the us known for in the international eye?

This has been the last few years, while the other examples have been atleast a generation worth of imaging. What's your point?

awww... china man couldn't take a joke.

 i lulzed.

I'd have to agree on the negative view on China these days (and I'm Chinese) - any negative news coming out of China does not surprise me in the least. They are about the cheapest solutions possible while money is their top priority at any cost. It's sickening. Look at their copies of everything, even vehicle designs. Who cares about kids' health - even their very own? You even see it with sellers here - what return policy?! Would it kill them to do something right for a change? And no, Beijing Olympics don't really count. It was just for the world stage and now it's quite a mess there. The only thing you can give them credit for and still smile about it is the ability to buy something on the cheap.

Oh and btw, BlahBlahYouToo is still an immature douchebag.

The US is still the world leader in many fields. Yes, a good deal of our products are outsourced to other countries but the design and innovation takes place here. China builds a bunch of stuff, but they design very little of it themselves (this is changing, but there is a loooooong ways to go). Our services sector is top notch and we have some of the best health care in the world (if you can afford it). Then there is the one thing that the US excels at by far, and that is higher education.

Unfortunately, in my travels the US seems to be mainly known overseas as the leading exporters of arrogance.
