What is the smallest denomination coin you would pick up?

How low will you go?

If you were to see a coin on the street, what is the smallest denomination you are willing to pick up?

I'll make the poll public, so we can see how cheap we are.

None option unavailable, poahl fhail; unless you consider bacon = none, in which case I call for a motion to permaban...

I make about $32/hour, if I'm walking on the street chances are I'm off, I consider my time off as being worth double, so $64/hour. I figure it would take about 10 seconds to pickup, well maybe less, but let's just say 10 seconds. So if I figure out how much 10 seconds is worth, it's 8 cents after taxes, perhaps a bit less after other deductions. So while a dime would return profit, it's barely worth it, I would not bother. A quarter on the other hand, that is worth it. So I would pickup a quarter or higher.

Come on now. If you saw a dollar on the ground, you wouldn't bother to pick it up?

I'd pick up a penny. There's been plenty of times a penny would have come in useful to me. Plus, 42 more of them, and I can get a taco. 😉

1¢. That penny could be the one that keeps me from getting four more later on. If it's all copper, I save it for later use.

How do you manage to earn $64 per hour on your time off?

As Allisolm said above, a penny found and picked up is said to bring good luck. Anyway, I have a jar on my dresser where I collect pennies. I have another jar for all other coins (5, 10, 25, etc.) 🙂

10 seconds? How fat are you that it takes 10 seconds to bend down and get back up again?

For me, a quarter, but for different reasons than bad math. Maybe it's because I spent too much time in arcades as a youth, but a quarter seems like real money. It can (or at least it used to be able to) buy something, even if that something is another game of Asteroids. And once in a while I'll pump some quarters into a vending machine, so they seem like they have a purpose. I honestly can't remember the last time I actually used a dime or a nickel, so I don't want to carry them around in my pocket.

I won't bend over for less than a dollar

Like a hooker in 1968 Saigon.

10 seconds to pick up a coin? That's terrible

When you get back up are you all sweaty?

Quarter and as others mentioned, it depends where it is.

I pretty regularly throw pennies in the trash. And by regularly I mean the rare time I am paying with cash and get change back.
