What is the S-Video IN for on the VIVO dongle?

I have a 7800GT with VIVO. On the VIVO dongle there is S-Video IN and S-Video OUT. I assume the S-Video OUT is for running the display to a TV. But what is the S-Video IN for?

Can I run my satellite reciever into the S-VIdeo IN? And if so, do I run the S-Video OUT to the monitor as well? I have a Dell LCD with multiple display inputs. Ive tried running the S-Video of the reciever into the S-VIdeo IN of the VIVO dongle and then connecting the S-Video OUT to the monitor but when I switch to S-Video on the monitor I only get a lower quality version of what is showing on the DVI output which I am using for my main display input to the monitor.

If I in fact can run the satellite reciever into the S-Video IN of the VIVO dongle then how do I view the satellite on the monitor? Someone said to get the WDM drivers from nVidia which I did and I installed them but where do I go from here? Connecting the S-Video OUT of the VIVO dongle into the monitor doesn't work with or without the WDM drivers installed.

I have tried a direct S-Video connection between the satellite reciever to the monitor but the picture was really crappy. This is why I am wondering if I can run the satellite through the video card to get a better picture.

Im completely lost on this.

If nothing else, someone just please explain what the S-Video IN is for on the VIVO dongle.

Thanks in advance.

S-Video In is for external sources such as a video game console, digital cable box or in your case the satellite receiver (I don't believe you can put a DVD player through anything but a receiver because of DVD restrictions).

Edit: Also S-Video In is good to put your digital camcorder or other media device so that you can save it to your PC and edit it with software. Now it's probably easier to do this with Firewire, but it is possible through RCA or S-Video In as well.

S-Video Out is usually out to your tv or other device which uses S-Video In. Ie. in cases where you would like to watch a movie or play a game on your tv through your computer.

You should be able to view the satellite on your computer monitor. You wouldn't need to run the video through to your monitor with the S-Video Out from the dongle because you're already hooked up to your monitor by DVI.

Your video card will not make the picture from your satellite look any better than if you hook it up to your tv (unless your tv is of poorer quality).

Media Player Classic (free) is one program that can view the S-Video stream (File->Open Device). Windows Movie Maker and WM Encoder can be used to capture it as well.

There's probably an application that comes with your VIVO video card which will allow you to play your satellite feed through your computer. My friend used to do this with his Dreamcast so that he could have a better quality image and it was cheaper than getting a VGA Box.

I would say either use the application which comes with your card or else look for an application on the web which will allow you to view/capture your satellite on your monitor.

I tried MP Classic but the video quality is REALLY bad. Is there any way to get a higher resolution?

I have a TV tuner card as well. A leadtek 2000 xp expert. it has a decent picture but its still not what I expected when I got this monitor.

Is there any way to get a higher resolution than the 640x480 or so that MP Classic and my tv card offers?

I figured that all along I could just plug the satellite reciever right into the monitor and that would be it. But it didnt turn out that way. Don't get me wrong the picture quality of the tv tuner card is really good in a small window but full screen is when it goes in the toilet. THe direct connection to the monitor is definitely viewable but like I said before, it's not nearly what I expected.

However for running windows or gaming this monitor RULES. I just wish I could have a better picture for watching TV on it.

Any last suggestions?
