What is the point of having day light savings anymore?

I cannot even think of one reason to keep day light savings in this day and age. Why can't we just keep it like it is now for the spring/summer and have the extra light all year?

I don't know anyone personally that would rather it be dark sooner in the day.

It sucks, you can't do a damn thing outdoors when you get home from work.

Doesnt bother me much, but I do agree, it'd be nice to have the extra hour of light year round.

Except for in the winter when the sun wouldn't rise along the Canada/US border until like 10 am.

Guess I should have added "extra hour of light @ the end of the day" year round- of course it'd rise later in the AM, but I wouldn't mind that.

the day of sucks, but I really like when it's still light out when I get off of work.

I feel so much more compelled to do work around the house when I get home, as opposed to when it's dark out and all I want to do is eat dinner and curl up on the couch.

Fuckin makes me so un-motivated to do anything

Well, seeing as our government is paying land owners NOT to farm, I say screw the farmers and let's just be on standard time all the time. Some states already do this (Indiana and Arizona IIRC).

Indiana started using DST last year.

the original one I did not mind too much, but the one month extension is really bad for northerners.

I vote for keeping DST all year too. I love when it stays light out later. During the early winter it's frigging dark out on my commute home at 5:30, which SUCKS. Then I get home and don't feel like doing anything.

I never have a problem with going back, an extra hour is always nice. This time going forward I went to sleep really early so it didn't fuck with me too much. I'll take the extra light in the evening.

if you lived in NE even with DST it would still be dark at 5:30 in the winter
LOL

For 21 of the past 23 years, I thought Daylight Savings Time was the action of turning clocks back, and turning clocks forward was Standard.

I like DST more than Standard a LOT. Who doesn't like it when it's still bright out at 10pm at night in the summer. Leaving the office at 5pm and it being completely dark already also sucks.

I think most people are like you. Most like the daylight savings time far better than standard time. Also, most people mistake the two and complain about the same daylight savings time that they love.

I say, keep it daylight savings time all year round. But then, I'm not a morning person.

i sat down and had a chat with the powers that be about DST

we decided to keep it around solely for the reason of annoying you

I completely agree. The reasoning for having it earlier in the winter is so school kids don't get hit by cars...I mean really? Who's going to be ramming into bus stops full of kids at 7 in the morning in December if we went to DST year round?? How drunk would you have to be to miss a group of kids hanging out at bus stops. Plus it's just as dangerous getting out in the winter when it's almost pitch black out. Makes no sense. I LOVE having the extra hour of light at the end of the day. Really makes you feel like you can do more when you get out of work/school

Yesterday it was said on television that the time change actually saved just 0.03% in terms of energy consumption. Since that was its main purpose, looks like it's not worth the hassle.

I'd prefer if time across all lower 48 was the same.

Commerce and productivity would plummet. People in general are more productive in the morning and afternoon as it relates to the sun. The western part of the nation would not survive.

.03% may seem like a small number, but when you consider that its .03% of the entire nation's power, that .03% can mean billions of dollars.
