What is the NRA about?

The ACLU is the reason the regulations on people with mental illness were undone, since it could be broadly applied to people who had been diagnosed with depression or an eating disorder and was overstepping the freedom implied by the 2nd.

I'm not sure how that's not defending the individual...

I would question why someone who didn't care about any of their other rights would care about the 2nd? If someone cares about the 2nd and doesn't think the ACLU prioritizes the 2nd sufficiently, I would encourage them to start a 2nd amendment advocacy group that prioritizes the 2nd while not undermining the rest of the Constitution.

That isn't the question though. We are discussing the 2nd amendment. And why somebody would pick the ALCU over the NRA to represent them.

What are you on? Police departments routinely do vastly worse to left leaning people than righties for equivalent things and righties can get away with vastly more.

You think the police state in NYC was built by the right? Obama, Clinton, Johnson, JFK, Truman, FDR. All armed the state as their safety net and used it to further their cause. If you want a real world example that is going on today. Maduros declared a few days ago if push comes to shove, they will use their collective arms to kill the opposition. The idea the left hates guns is rather amusing. They may hate guns in the hands of the individual. But they love them in the hands of the collective(state). And this topic is a good example. How many people who oppose the 2nd base it on being viewed as a collective right. A well regulate milita. Which they equate to the national guard. Note they wont call for disarming the national guard.

I'm sorry, would you care to remind me which party Noted Leftist Rudy Guiliani was part of and whose administration he works with now?

Do me a favor, and give everyone a quick refresher on which mayor made Noted Leftist William J Bratton Police Commissioner, who was the person Stop and Frisk started under?

Would you care to remind me about where Actual Literal Socialist Bill de Blasio weighed in on the issue of Stop and Frisk?

You are either breathtakingly unqualified to speak on the matter or being intentionally dishonest. A police state isn't just a monopoly on force, it's the use of that force, and you and yours have abused the hell out of that force in your cherry-picked example. Holy hell. You'd think that given all the cities in the US to choose from you could choose one that actually backs your point.

In short, I accept your concession that you cannot find an example of repressive policing driven primarily by the left. Jesus H. Tapdancing Christ. You could've at least given Ike sending in the 101st to defend school integration as an example of imposing leftist policies by force, but I guess supporting segregation might be a bit on the nose for you, and you probably want to claim that one for your team.

And your example of Maduro is a total red herring. We're talking about the American Left, unless you want to get into the policies of fun people like Duerte and what American evangelicals are inflicting on African countries they can get their hooks into (Can you say death penalty based on sexuality, because they sure can!)

This is pretty much it, in the years when Democrats were pushing hard for gun bans and other draconian restrictions on fire arms, ammunition and other 2nd Amendment issues the ACLU basically told gun owners to shut up and take it.
