Sounds like you might need a new water filter for your icemaker.

The Opal ice maker does have an optional filter, and even though my tap water is mediocre, I haven't found it to negatively affect the taste of the ice. It does have a built-in cleaning cycle which is very simple to do (5 cups water with a teaspoon of bleach, then it does a special automated cleaning procedure, then you let it rinse & drain a few times and put it back into ice-making mode...only takes a few minutes every month).
My fridge/freezer (Amana) doesn't have an ice maker. I don't use ice a lot except in hot weather. When I bought the machine ice making wasn't a high priority. It was just after I bought my house and I was down to my last $1000. I spent it on the fridge. I had a full time job, so I wasn't worried.

The off taste on the ice: It's better than it was. It's that smell you get in fridge's freezer, freezer smell, or whatever you call it. Seems to be not as big a problem for me as it was. My freezer is stuffed! Seems like I can always get something more in there, but it never seems to get 1/2 empty. I could use a stand alone freezer, but it's a low priority.

I bought a charcoal filter item to put in the freezer to leech out the bad odor but have never used it. One day if the odor is obvious I may deploy it. It's a one time thing, AFAIK, and I'd have to buy more if I want to use it again.

Yeah, the ice can absorb smells. I think they recommend maxing out your freezer at 80% capacity or something like that. Hmm. Maybe reduce the storage quantity of the freezer, do a good defrost cycle & then clean it out. Bummer!

Most of our extra $ goes towards traveling after bills and retirement savings so I'd say those. After that it would be my PSB speakers and my subwoofer.

I had a Custom TLE II as well. Sold it after a year.
Nice but too big to carry and I didnt feel like taking it to the range very frequently.

Mostly I'm pretty pleased with the performance of my fridge/freezer. The smell isn't bothering me usually.

This is frostless freezer. We had a non-frost free fridge/freezer affair here years ago and I was the guy who always defrosted it. What a job! I'm spoiled for that now. This one never needs any attention at all. Well, I'm supposed to clean the coils on the bottom once in a while and I do. That's really easy. Once or twice I pulled it out from the wall to clean at the back but found it was clean back there. I do clean it out once in a while and try to clean the rubber seal occasionally and apply petroleum jelly as indicated in the manual.

Yeah, I got a frost-free model last year on Black Friday & it has been serving me well! Zero frost buildup & I've hit past -20F on multiple occasions. Plus it's less than $60 to run annually...I think my old one cost that much monthly lol.

Mine was Energy Star or something back when I bought it in 2000. Today's machines are more efficient but I don't know that they are that much more efficient, enough to warrant buying a new machine. Yeah, it's 17 years old! But I'm really good to it. It's full of stuff, but I don't leave the door open the way people do. Plus the room's on a slope such that the door closes by itself if I don't open it very much, a nice "feature!"

I keep the fridge around 40 F, maybe a bit below and the freezer AFAIK about 0 F.

I should plug it into my Kill-o-Watt meter and leave it there a few days or a week and determine my approximate annual energy cost to run it.

i got the witcher 3 steam sale

Steam sale has turned to crap. Barely anything good at 75% off, and nothing worthwhile with 80-90% off. No daily specials either. I occasionally get steam gift cards from friends/family...and I save up about $5-8 a month to spend on the major steam sales. I now have a large pile of money on my steam account because I'm not finding any good deals. If it's an exceptional game I really, really want then I'll consider around $10...but usually more like $5. Decent games should be $2.50 or less, and lesser games $1 or less. Those are my limits, and there's been extremely few exceptions.

That seems excessive...can do the same with some salvaged tarps and/or homeless tents and cheap LEDs off ebay.
