What is the need for all these progress CPUs'

Well actually when cpu is faster and consumes less power (like what Intel has attempted to do each gen) it consumes less of the earth's resources....

Only rnergy consumption doesn't give whole picture of resource usage .... how about metals, semiconductors, plastic, etc .....
