I tried staying awake in the Summer to see how long would I last, of course this is unhealthy because at the 4th day i had a hard time breathing and the worst thing about it is when I had enough I couldnt fall asleep. -Lesson learned. (I aint doing it again) of course I did sleep, I didnt notice myself falling asleep, How long did I sleep? about 20 hours, woke up for maybee 3 hours and sleep again.. slept, woke slept woke, until I got back to the normal rate.
I know.. Im a moron
The most would have to be about 2 days...the week before finals week is a real b!tch...CS projects, ECE projects, Chem projects...And, no, we don't do much partying up here at Illinois Institute of Technology, thank you very much...;-)
Anyway, probably about 36 hours for me. I'd also like to point out that you can't die from sleep and you generally won't suffer from much cognitive loss, although memory is impaired a lot. It usually takes about 25% of the lost sleep to make up for it.
i 've tried pulling 24 hrs... dont it a few times, got a friend who works cleaning, many times he works all thru sat night... and then his boss keeps him going for another night.. maybe some day, if i quit work, I'll try to see how long I can last...
Friday-Sunday no sleep for around 36 hours, lots (and I mean alot) of drinking. Slept (more like passed out) Sunday afternoon for about 3 hours on a mattress someone brought to our spot on the parade route.
No sleep Sunday or Monday nights, drank somewhat less (still alot though ), fell asleep Tuesday (Mardi Gras Day) in someone else's tent on the parade route...slept for an undetermined amount of time until the owner of the tent found me in there and threw me out. Returned to my dorm room and slept all the rest of Mardi Gras day, and through classes Wednesday. Woke up Wednesday night around midnight. I was sick for the next week.
Check out this link to Encyclopedia Britannica. Evidently we're all light-weights when it comes to being sleep deprived - the champion was a 17 year-old who went 264 hours without sleep - that's 11 (eleven) days!!!. 5-10 days without sleep is usual in experiments.
So I guess my 6 days and nights of continual wakefulness is no big deal.
36 hours here. Though I think I am going to end up doing an all nighter tonight trying to get this paper finished, though I should probaly leave the forums to try to work on it. But I really don't want too.
I think around 2 days+...then I got around 4 hours of sleep, then got up and stayed up all day 'till about 1:00AM then went to bed...then got up around noon....then I was fine.
i remember my psychology professor telling us unusal sleep phenomenon my freshman year. the only one that comes to mind was this professor from Havard college who slept for no more then an hour each night. I sure as hell couldn't do that..the longest i've ever stayed up was about 3 days. Had to write a 10 page paper and turn it in, then went to the lake with some friends for the weekend. funny how your friends never let you sleep when you really need it....
