rsd's post has some wrong infomration. a premium system does not come with 1 year for free of xbox live gold. It comes with 1 month. just a heads up.

Would you guys recommend the premium one? Do I need a memory stick or can you store everything on the hard drive? I only ask because I have heard you cannot store on the WII hard drive.

In short, get a 360. The library of games is pretty good. Looks great too.

QFT. And it's easy for the roommates to join in and play.

Heh you confused me ...

1. Yes, get a premium for the 360 definitely. Getting a core is the biggest waste, trust me.

2. The Wii has like 512mb of flash memory I believe, not even 100% on this one. You can store save games on it.

What is that for? You don't think Xbox 360 gamers are casual? Just look at this thread.

Now I don't have to tweak settings and do all this funky stuff, sit at a desk with a mouse/keyboard in my hands. I can plop on my couch, be lazy as all hell in a comfortable position, with my 50" DLP in it's HD glory, and play games online.

It's not a knock on anyone, are people actually offended for being considered casual gamers? Most people get the Xbox 360 to play multiplayer games casually, with friends, as opposed to competitively / seriously. We've had discussions on this before and most anyone sane and logical will admit a keyboard and mouse offers way more control, but that they are willing to give up that control for a more casual atmosphere on their couch.

A keyboard and mouse offers more control? Feel free to play me in Madden, competitively, any time when I use a joystick and you use a keyboard/mouse. Oh wait, you think anything non-fps/rts is 'casual' I guess?

Oh, and I can 'casually' do it while lying down on my couch.

little bitter? My point was, that in shooting/action games, i think it is easier to control the character with a keyboard and mouse. I am a sports gaming fan and that is why i have a PS2 currently. I just bought the 360 last night. I was thinking about it for some time now, but you guys just convinced me. The table tennis came with it and i bought saints row, splinter cell, and GoW.

You'll probably want to get R6:Vegas if you are into that type of game. The game is very good :)

I wasn't even responding to you unless your alter ego is Skace. And my 'bitterness' is aimed towards PC elitists who feel that anything non-PC is 'casual'. Why do we play FPS's on a PC? For the keyboard/mouse because it is EASIER. :p

easier? possibly, but you can gain precise control with a joystick as well...you just have more keys and abilities to make your character's movement swift and precise.

Sure, it's easier. You can master the joystick but imho it will never be as nice and easy as a keyboard/mouse. I would be willing to wager it is easier for a skilled console gamer to move over to the PC than vice versa.

Hah, he's not my alter ego, no idea why he replied in my place. It's not so much that I feel anything non pc is casual, it's more that I feel the markets are setup that way. The 360 is made for people who wanted a gaming pc but didn't want to dick with a pc, installing drivers, sitting in an office char, etc. The games are also a step in that direction just compare the PC version of BF2 to the console version, you get a much more casual game. And I know plenty of guys who own Xbox360s and game casually, they don't know a thing about PCs, lan parties, or anything else. That doesn't mean there isn't a subset of more serious Xbox gamers, I just feel that from a buyer / categorization standpoint, you need to know what you are buying into.

It isn't so much because KBM is easier, it is also because lots of console FPS games support shooting assistance, something most purists would laugh at. KBM is accurate, configureable and versatile, supporting many different setups for any gamer.

Sh!t, just look at the new Shadowrun game coming out, they are talking about how the PC users of the game get more kickback on weapons and from hits taken to make up for the fact that they can aim faster and better than their console counterparts.

Yea but, label me a PC elitist. Seems like I was a Nintendo elitist last week and a Sony elitist the week before that.

Become a hardcore PC gamer, so you can buy a $1,500 high-end gaming PC every 3 years and $350 video card every 18 months in order to play the latest Quake/Doom/Battlefield/Rainbow Six/Unreal Tournament squeal!

Come on man, pony up! Anandtech needs more people like you in order to survive off the ad revenue! :)

Simply because I do not live with my fiance and I hate watching TV :x I used to play PS2 a good bit and had a ball doing it, although I was in college with many friends at that time. Since then, I have a hard time justifying a console system over a PC. I did play WoW, although I enjoy FPS's. I still think the mouse and keyboard are the most efficient way to move in a game like that. However, I do see games I might enjoy on the console systems. Would anyone recommend which system could potentially fit me and why? I don't think I will ever get away from some of the PC games, but I would like to console game some with friends and my fiance.

Overall, is it worth getting a console game for me? Why or why not? And if so, which one do you think would fit me the best according to the genres i like?

thanks in advance

what games? what about any games coming out in the next 3-9 months?

whichever system has the most games you really want to play... get that one.

if you don't really care, then don't spend money on a console.
