I dont ever drink shots. But I like whiskey.
Rye is good. I think its a bit more "spicy" tasting. I usually do mix with ice, but nothing else (thought I do like an old fashioned, i tend to favor Wisconsin style old fashioneds)

Rittenhouse BIB or Wild Turkey 101 Rye both like $25 or less around here and have a nice flavor profile.

Rittenhouse over a glass full of ice on a hot summer day is a perfect hot weather drink to me. The only problem is it drinks really fast.

I should branch out into American whiskys! Its pretty much the only mainstream spirit I'm unfamiliar with.
I very much have a problem with ice in spirits though.
I mean I've drunk a lot of Jack and coke when I was a kid and Woodfords reserve is a standard in some cocktails here but as a sipping whisky I have no idea whats good.

Jack is drinkable but not an ideal representative, the same way McDonald's isn't an ideal representative for an American cheeseburger. Jim Beam can fuck right off.

Yeah I don't like ice either. We have some ice cube trays that make ice balls. One in a shot glass is pretty cool, it doesn't have a chance to melt much.

I'll take Beam over Jack any day, but it isn't much of a race. Bourbon tends to leave me with a kind of acid refluxy feel in my stomach/throat. Knob Creek is reliable for me, and I tend to favor Heaven Hill in general.

Heh. All I'm hearing here is "stick with Whisk[e]y from the British isles"!
Nah, there's a lot of good options out there, just not arguably the two most famous ones. Take a pic of the American ones available local to you, share it here, and we could probably give you good recommendations.

Sure would be fuckin' nice if I could have whiskey delivered, but nooooo, only wine 😑
They do have the Four Roses Single Barrel, just go for that.

I stalk a few online retailers for stuff here in CA and have it delivered right to my door. This is good for my bar but bad for my credit card.

I still don't understand. You can't post spirits?
Religious zealotry is highly ingrained in US society, and our "freedom" is a bunch of nonsense. You're free to do what those in power say you can do. Otherwise, you're free to get fucked.

It probably varies by state, but whisky can't be shipped to mine; at least not legitimately afaik, I had a Danish friend send me some spirits that didn't get caught, but the customs declaration wasn't obvious to people that don't speak foreign languages, and this is the US. English is enough of a challenge.

Is there a cut off on this? Like if it's under 18abv you can deliver it, if it's 38% you can't?

Patchwork of US laws, I can have wine shipped direct to me (probably monied interests got that through) but not beer or whiskey.
That is bizarre! What about barley wine? That's mostly a beer but it says wine on the can. Or fruit wine?
What about port? That's mostly wine.

This is from the FAQ on MDs alcohol page...

While I’m traveling on vacation, how much alcohol can I have shipped back to me?

Only wineries holding a direct Maryland wine shippers permit can ship their own wine to Maryland consumers. Internationally, no alcohol may be shipped back to you including wine. See Alcoholic […]

I don't know where to see "Alcoholic..." cause the site designer is apparently incompetent.
