Maybe it be worth u setting up a dual boot with Win2K so u can try the newer OS then go back if u decide u dont like
I used to use NT4 cos i hate Win9x's instabilities.
Win2K is tons better thn 9x and makes NT4 feel like ur in Win3.1
IMO Win2k is THE BEST OS around at the moment.
Give it a try, i reckon u wont be going back if you do

Glen What reason would I have to make it up.Go to other news groups and read the horror,s of nividia drivers.When I tested the gf2 CL ver it would not play F4 with 527 (could be wrong on ver) but would with the ones that came with the card,this was appox 6 1/2 months ago.As for my post if you read it as you also typed it I said it____¿¿""""seems"""¿¿_____; because he is always (My son) complaining about changing drivers.But for my own proof is the above trial period when I played F4 (Falcon4) when I got the card befor I took it back.As I said in the post I,m not knowking any card,I just want what works.Glen guit disecting the messages to find fault to slam dunk for bull crap reasons.I,m to old to play your silly games of my card is bigger than yours or it pumps more FPS than his or hers the point is what does it do on a persons system which are like finger prints which none are the same,what will work on yours might not work on mine.First thing Tech support wants to no what is your systems configuration,and I say this and they say yep it,s the video card that is causeing your problem.It is aways somebody elses crap that is causing the problem.3DFX or Nividia will confess to nothing of there product that will cause you problems.

i have a voodoo3 2000PCI 143@175, and i'm quite happy with it. i have no 'loyalty' to any company. i take whatever is in my pricerange and works best. i have no agp, so i had no choice for compatability OR price than to go with 3dfx. i have had no problems with it whatsoever. both makers have advantages. NVidia is great for lower resolution high fps, whereas the new voodoos are good for high res/large screen, because of the extra memory badnwidth. granted, up here in canada a Herculese 3D Prophet II 64mb is $700, and a Vodoo5 5500 is $460 i believe(i could be wrong)

Not to strike a match or anything, but show me a benchmark where 3dfx is beating nVidia (or even ATi) in the high rez area (besides UT). Actually, in high rez UT, the Radeon and GTS beat the 5500. So I don't understand your point.
And correct me if I'm wrong, but the GTS has more memory bandwidth that than the 5500. And "down here", you can get a 32MB GeForce 2 GTS for $209 ($284 for 64MB version)and a Voodoo 5 5500 for $237.
rockhard, I have W2k Pro installed in a dual boot but I don't use it that much because for some reason MP3's skip real bad in W2K.

What sound card do you have? If you have an Aureal Based SC, they tend to have issues in win2k..
Albeit, when I had my tb montego II, i never had mp3's skipping problems in win2k...

Well, you got me there. I went over to check for myself. They listed NT 4.0 support for all the Voodoo5 cards, but now they took it off every one of them. It looks like they've dropped all NT support! Right on!
I guess a Raedon is the next logical choice. They still support NT right?

you had mp3 stuttering problems with a live? I've seen dozens of win2k systems with live based cards and not a single one has stuttering mp3 problems....

Stuff it ppl. Me, just like the rest of ya will buy the fastest board whatever it might be. I'm sure everyone has bought something expecting it to be something it wasn't. I had a V3 3000 once. Until 3dfx regain the crown for sure, I will buy 3dfx. But for now it's nVidia. Maybe ATI in the not too distant future, maybe V5 6000, who knows, not me anyway.

It must have something to do with the rest of my system. I have one of the first Live! cards. Maybe that's it.

Check that ur Live is not sharing its IRQ with another PCI slot, The USB Controller, Highpoint Controller. Ignore the IRQ's in Windows, just look in the manual and set it so that its in a PCI slot that shares with nothing else.
Heres a rip from an earlier post to someone who was having similar probs:-

PCI slot 3 works great for the SBlive in the KT7 raid in my two systems
PCI slot 2 should be great too
Have a look in your manual - it says which slots share their IRQ with the USB and the Highpoint controller. Will give u a clue as to why i chose these 2 PCI slots
I spoke to Creative about 12 months ago about this and when i told them the symptoms like urs they jumped on the IRQ bandwagon straight away.
If U are using Win98/ME then u will have a SB16 Emulation - this has to be on a low IRQ - IRQ5 be nice.
Best way i found to solve this was to take out all the cards from your puter except VGA and reboot.
Shutdown and then add just the SBLive and reboot and install the latest drivers.
Check that the IRQ's are something like "SBLive" - IRQ 10, "SB16 Emulation" - IRQ 5 be nice
Then u can pop ur other cards in one by one rebooting between each card and checking the IRQ's.
This way u will find out if any of your cards are trying to fight with the SBLive and SB16 and so change their PCI slot position before putting all the cards in and not knowing which one is causing the problem
If ur using Win2K then u wont have the SB16 problem so can just plug and play Heh, Win2k pnp rocks compared to Win9x.
I appreciate some of this might not apply to ur OS but i reckon u will get the jist of what to do

rockhard, it just so happens that my SBLive! is sharing IRQ 9 with the USB controller. You may have found my problem!
It's going to take me a couple hours to move the card over 1 slot because I have to back everything up first. I'll let you know if it works. Thanks!
I just assumed all this time that because it worked fine in NT that it was a bug in W2K. But since NT doesn't have USB support, that's probably why it works that way. I also wasn't too concerned about the IRQ's sharing because most of the time it isn't a problem.
I'll let you know.
Its about time CL put something in the front of their manual about the Live IRQ sharing problem
The amount of system probs i see on BBS's where there is a Live in the rig and is most probably the cause of the instability is a joke
