If you've been here long enough to become a senior member, you'd know that SoccerMan is anything but a Nvidiot..

well, i'm sorry if i hurt your feelings, but comming across from a neutral plane it seemed like you are not only more narrow minded than any of the people that responded to you original "claims", but you also seemed more eager to pick a fight. Well, you got exactly what you asked for, a fight.

I have never owned a nVidia card in my life and I am currently an owner of a VooDoo5 5500, and I am not happy with it at all. It has poor driver support (the ones that just came out are the first ones to actually improve perfomance), it's a poor overclocker(unstable at 133FBS), and it can't perform decently unless the game is made for Glide. I would trade my VooDoo5 5500 for a GeForce2 GTS anytime.

Well, Ben I guess that makes my a nVidiot too, right?

<< No MrGrim. Your only an NVidiot if you flame other people that wish to purchase outside of the brand your loyal to. >>

No one was flaming your for your choice of 3dfx or any other card for that matter. They are flaming your for your lack of self control and childishness in this thread.

<< nfs4 is a liar. 3dfx linux drivers are much better than nvidia drivers. >>

Take one point out and call me a liar, oooooooooooooooooookay. I'm talking full package here. Can you honestly stand there and tell me that 3dfx's driver support accross the entire OS range I mentioned above is as stable, as frequently updated, and good performing as nVidia's drivers?

I heard Voodoo 5 5500 owners rejoicing this past week after 3dfx relased new Win2k drivers that finally brought the performance and stability that they have screamed for. How long has nVidia been providing stable Win2k drivers that perform almost as well as their Win9x counterparts? nVidia supports the full OS range and is constantly upgrading their drivers. And the Detonator 3 drivers brought a welcome boost to the whole range of GeForce cards.

I'm in no way bashing 3dfx, but almost anyone will tell you that they leave much to be desired in the driver department. nVidia is number with ATi bringing up the rear.

ROFL Ben, I can't believe you're burning your bridges by calling Soccerman (someone who repeatedly defends 3dfx) by calling him an NVidiot. Did you ever consider that Soccerman's post about the GF2 Ultra's was biting sarcasm against NVidia?

And before you call me an ignorant NVidiot, I own a V3.

This BBS isn't necessarily a bastion of AMD/NVidia lovers. There are many prominent, respected members (Soccerman, fkloster, John, etc.) whose opinions differ. But the difference between you and them is that they post in an intelligent manner and do not flagrantly insult people.

Yeah, that's some funny sh!t. Soccerman is one of the biggest 3dfx lovers (albeit nice one) on the BBS. Now which one of you guys is supposed to be the ignorant one? ;)

And you've made yourself the butt of the joke.

Ben, please enlighten me. How is this quote by soccerman:

<< or for that matter, where are the GTS Ultras? >>

praising nVidia?

I wasn't going to bother with this because you guys will just try and turn around everything I say against me. But I'm bored, so what the heck.

Since no one can read, lets recap the order of events:

First, let's read the title "What is taking the V5 6000 so long?". A good question. I came in the thread to respond and I do so. While I'm at it, I respond to soccerman's post. I didn't flame anyone. I didn't call anyone names. I don't really care at this point whether his post is sarcastic or not. I don't have time to reshearch his posts on this forum and find out if he's pro/anti NVidia.

Then, I get flamed from AOD. That's fine if he thinks that 3dfx drivers are just as buggy. But he feels the need to call me ignorant, and there's the problem. I respond appropriately.

Then we hear from NFS4. A good post, athough I disagree with him. He does seem loyal to NVidia and rather than waste my time trying to explain my opinion, I respond with a smartass remark.

Then he responds with a smartass remark. Fine. Turnabout is fair play. I can live with that.

Then I get flamed from numerous people who just want to get in on the action.

Then, probably the most amazing part, I get blamed for everything.

Gimme a break. I'm sorry to insult your little video card. Maybe I'm tired of hearing how great NVidia is, was, will be. I've had a V6800 for over 6 months in my personal machine at home. I've dealt with the driver problems under Windows NT and Windows 2000 all this time. If you haven't had problems, then that's good. I have. So don't tell me how great the drivers are. Every new set of drivers has replaced old problems with new ones. The only drivers I was happy with were the 5.32. Unfortunately I upgraded to the 6-series driver hoping to get better performance. All I got was more problems.

I CHOOSE to buy 3dfx next time.

Wasn't a smartass comment...just an observation of your actions towards others.

How can you make such a statment that you would exchange your Voodooo5- 5500 for a nividia any day and never own one!!.Well I had both cards and they are back at the store where they belong.I didn't find either to my liking,I still use my voodoo 3 3000 (untill something better comes alone reguardless of maker)and it dose what the other cards say they will do.My son has a GF2 MX and it seems that he has to change drivers depending on what game he will play.I don't care for what maker of card I use but I want one that says what it does will do just that.We are free to buy what we want but don't use that to abuse other peoples choices, because they didn't get the card you perfer or use,I can say anythintg is a piece of crap but not befor I try it out,to come to the understanding why I don't like the Video card.

I think you are making this up.
Name the game and specific driver he has to use which won't work in another game.

Well, I can't get Mario Kart to work on my GeForce 2 GTS, but maybe that's because the damn cartridge doesn't fit correctly in my 12x Plextor...

;) ;)

If you want specifics, I have them:

Using Windows NT 4.0 Workstation. All my hardware has remained the same.

version
5.14 - Unreal and UT would not run. I would get dumped back on the desktop with no explanation. Very blurred text in Starcraft.
5.22 - Unreal and UT fixed. Replaced by radomn lockups, especially while using IE 5.0. Still blurred text in Starcraft.
5.23 - No problems to speak of. I should've stuck with these. Starcraft text still blurry but improved enough to be legible.
6.18 - I upgraded for more performance. I got randomn episodes of a solid colored screen with gray lines in it. Sometimes I can make out blurred images of my desktop. The computer isn't frozen, but I can't see anything. This only happens when I'm NOT playing games. The only fix is a reboot. This happened about once every 2 hours. For me, this was the last straw.
6.27 - Same problem as 6.18, but less often. The computer was at least usable at this point. Still annoying though.
6.31 - Same problem as 6.18, but even less often. Plus once is a while, UT crashes when loading and usually locks up the computer. I haven't used these very long so I don't know what other "features" I gained or lost. In all fairness, I also upgrade to UT 4.32, so maybe that has something to do with it.

With the 6.31's I can actually use this thing without wanting to throw things. But I still have save everything I do often, because I never know when it's going to tweak out on me.
