What is so good about anime???

I like Anime because it can be anything you want it to be. There is a show that satisfies the little kids (Hello Kitty anyone?) the power ranger loving boys (DragonBall Z), the angst teen (lots of good ones there, especially in the action area like Rurouni Kenshin and Ghost In The Shell, Full Metal Alchemist, Bleach), even the girls have their animes (Ai Yori Aioshi) and of course you even have animes satisfying adults (again, Rurouni Kenshin, Ghost In The Shell, Paranoia Agent, Blood+)

There's just so much to choose from. I have hard drives filled with the stuff. There is something for every mood. That is what anime is, and that is what is so great about it. I honestly believe that if someone does not have a phobia of admitting that they like drawn entertainment, then I think anyone can find something they like. If you can't find anything good about it, then I think you simply haven't found the anime for you yet. Just like any other series like CSI, House, Lost, etc. you have to like it.

if you want movies and not series i recomend

Princess Mononoke
Akira
Paprika
Appleseed
Escaflowne
Beyond The Clouds
Ghost in the Shell
Highlander: The Search For Vengeance - this is new and excellent

the bebop movie is really hard to follow if you havent watched the series

I'm into anime and I find everything on that movie boring, except for the ones I haven't seen (paprika, appleseed, highlanger, wait, highlander might be good if it has anything to do with the "There can be only one highlander" series), which are probably boring too.

The anime on Adult Swim sucks. For someone like you it normally takes a popular "anime crack" type series like DBZ or Naruto to get you interested in anime. Then you get a friend who will introduce you to some classic stuff like Cowboy Bebop, or Trigun. From there you make your own tastes, everyone likes different stuff. But don't use Adult Swim to introduce you to anime. If you want a funny anime, watch a series called "Golden Boy", it's only six episodes.

Anime is a whole world of its own. Saying "What is so good about anime" is as stupid as saying "What is so good about movies."

But in all seriousness, if one started with some horrible commercial dubbings of anime, then that would be a turn off...

And you can ask the same as to why people are into TV shows, books, movies, etc.... I personally like anime because things can be depicted there that live action can't possibly comprehend to attain. And there is the funny/comedy for me.

Agreed and this is a huge point I try to make to people when discussing anime... anime is typically clumped together, because it came to us in a trickle and we honestly never see 95% or more of it here in America. If you look at the vast amount in Japan (naming just one area), you will see that anime is as diverse as movies are in America.

I don't really watch as much as not many catch my eye anymore, but some seem to at times. Personally, I'm hoping the bleach mini-fillers end soon... I want to hear Nell talk 😀! "That robe... the thword... You are a thinigami!!!" Most certainly one of my favorite characters in a long time.

As people have said, don't let a couple dubs turn ya off, there's a lot out there that you might like. It's best to say "this is the kind of stuff I like" and people can probably point you out to some anime that will fit the bill.

I can't watch it for the fact that the voice actors have to talk so fast in order to keep up that it sounds absolutely stupid. It sounds like the guy at the end of those car radio commercials reading off the disclaimers.

No, movies are more sensical, have better production values, and appeal to a wide range of people. Anime often deals with abstract stories, are produced by 3 virgins in an apartment, and therefore it only appeals to a few people.

If you need hentai recommendations I'm your man. Just give me the word.

*slinks back into the darkness*

Anime definitely has a wide range. Personally I've found that I seem to hate the anime movies that others consider classics. For example, I've seen both Akira and Ghost in the Shell (the movie) and I thought both of them were complete crap. On the other hand I've been watching the series Fullmetal Alchemist recently and I like it quite a bit. I've also heard that the Ghost in the Shell series is quite good (from another person who hated the movie), but I haven't seen it.

If you watch the series all the way through, make sure you watch the movie. It ties everything together and gives the series an actual ending.

akira came out in 1988 and when it came out it was revolutionary, not so much anymore, however i still like it, tho it only contains like 1/3rd of the manga

the GITS movie ( first one) is great IMO, mor so on the amazing animation, but i do like the story and what not,

FMA is just plain awsome

Yakitate!!, Cromartie High School if you have that kind of humor.

Great Teacher Onizuka is also good. Everybody else has said good recommendations.

I've never been able to get into it either. I've had plenty of people try, but it's usually just so over the top that it's silly. Having a roommate that watched Anime gave me some exposure, and I can't say that I really like any of it.

what is the average age of the people that watch this? Would it be safe to say it would be in the teens? And would the people mostly be asian?

im as non asian as you can get and im 26

I'm 30 and my wife is 22, and we both watch plenty of anime. There's all kinds, if you want a deep, mysterious, adult storyline, check out Monster.

Anime literally has something for everyone unless you're bound and determined not to like it.

I'm not Asian and I'm older than Arkaign and I'm watching it. But as he says, you have to find the type you like. If I had believed that all anime was the same as Akira and GITS I never would have watched any more. Oh, and I absolutely loved Star Blazers when I was a kid.
