What is so good about anime???

I?m guessing you have watched 1 show that was dubbed for the US

Anime can be funny, depends on the show, many are funnier then others just like normal TV shows
Many are adventurous again it depends on the show
And its none of my business if you like tentacles

"What's the big deal about westerns"
"What's the big deal about medical dramas?"
"why wasn't Bruce Willis killed 10 minutes into Die Hard 1?"
. . . etc.

It's like every other genre. Some of it is great, some good, a lot is mediocre and some is junk.

I'll just assume that you aren't watching the right ones, and probably dubbed and edited to boot.

I watched some stuff on Adult Swim, and people always talk about how some of those are funny and what not.
IMO, it looked a little, um.... boring.

What do they show on adult swim? The only shows I watch on TV are Food Network Programs, MSNBC, Faux Noise, and CNN.

You might want to try something like Cowboy Bebop the movie, and ghost in the shell 1 & 2 (movies also), Appleseed was pretty good too (great quality animation). I don't like very much anime, but I do like those.

i dont agree with all of these but its a good place to start

if you want movies and not series i recomend

Princess Mononoke
Akira
Paprika
Appleseed
Escaflowne
Beyond The Clouds
Ghost in the Shell
Highlander: The Search For Vengeance - this is new and excellent

the bebop movie is really hard to follow if you havent watched the series

Comedy anime on Adult Swim? I guess if you can call Shin Chan, otherwise I don't think there's been any comedy anime on there for a while (neither the comedy fans nor the anime fans liked it).

Unless somehow you're saying Family Guy, Futurama, and stuff like Aqua Teen as anime which it is not.

It IS funny, it IS adventurous, and it's just another media to convey a story. It is no better and no worse than any other form.

School Rumble for example is a very funny Anime.
History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi is an action oriented anime, with some comedy spliced in.
Nodame Cantabile is a drama with a fair amount of comedy.
Honey and Clover is an excellent drama.
Berserk is a superb action anime.

The list goes on and on, give it a chance and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Watching the movie is what got me to try the series, I didn't find it hard to follow. You'd get more out of it from seeing the series first though.

I enjoyed Dragon Ball Z when I was growing up (Japanese version), Gyver, Robotech, Transformers, Mazinger/Tranzor Z, Grandizer, Kamenrider, etc. I don't watch much now days other than once in a while Naruto but other than that, the stuff they make now doesn't appeal to me and real actual women > drawings.

Excessive violence ftw!

edit - I should say, most of the new ones are not like Samurai X (Kenshin OAV). Thats the first time I saw someone getting their face chopped in half, animated.

There are different types of anime. Anime simply means animated as in "moving drawings" and has nothing to do with the actual literal content. It's very different from "cartoons" in that cartoons are generally made for children and have simple themes and story lines with a happy ending (no not that type of happy ending...)

Anime is generally extreme drama...for example heroes often die, civilization hopelessly destroyed, maxed out perversion, etc. Anime exists because often times extreme expressions cannot be expressed on camera. This is what makes anime unique and well "good" as you might put it. It allows for an extreme and broad canvas of expression.

Cowboy Bebop is great because of how UNLIKE an anime it is. Plus the music is godly.

Agreed

The actual series is better, and I think a lot of the movie has less meaning or impact without having first seen at least most of the series 😛
