he started the careers of Mary J. Blige, Notorious BIG, Mase, 112. He put together one of the best selling Movie Soundtracks ever, Bad Boys II. His label in the mid to late 90's was the PREMIER rap label. He started and runs Sean John, worth millions and millions of dollars.

He ran the NYC Marathon for Charity and donated close to 12 million.

so .. even if he didn't have BIG, ... did he not hustle as an intern at Uptown Records, get a distribution deal through Arista, sign Mase and 112. Start his own clothing line and restaurants?

I say good for them. The simple fact that they'd care enough to spend $$ in order to turn those teams around is reason enough. I hate the NBA and basketball but sports in general is plagued with owners with more dough you can imagine, but who don't give one rat's ass about how the team does. I don't see either of those guys taking that position.

Both have net worths in the several hundred million dollar range. As was stated here, a majority of that comes from other businesses, not from making music (or whatever you call what puffy does). In addition to the above, Jay-Z also owns the 40/40 Club in New York and has a sneaker deal with Reebok, and puffy owns a restaurant or two.

We have a winner. We all may not like their music, or them perhaps, but they both are good buisness men. They have found ways to enter new markets and do well in them. While they have may have not made your favorite music, they do know how to spot tallent and make it work. If they can do half of what they did with their current businesses to an NBA team, I say let them, and I'd be supprised if they didn't put a good effort into it. For them image is everything, and I doubt they'd like the ownership of a loosing team tainting that image.

You have won "moron of the day" award. The day you could ever make a classic album like Jay-Z's "Reasonable Doubt" is the day you realize your disillusionment about the difference between a rapper and "musician" like the Roots...

Be sure to email me when your kids idolize P.Diddy, Jay-Z, 2Pac, or BIG more than you... that day is coming, and there's not a thing you can do about it.

 
I do not consider them musicians, I consider them rap artists. And they are. You may not like rap, but there sure is a market for it, and they help fill that market.

I am curious how these two would be considered spoiled? If by spoiled, you mean some rich white kids with daddy's money, you are referring to Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. If your definition of spoiled is being black, growing up in the ghetto, and ending up being successful many times over, then you need to go back to school.

It's all relative. I bought myself a car, an apartment in Manhattan, tons of computer eq, I make a good amount of money. Not as much as dummy one and dummy two but I am doing well for myself and it ain't over yet. When I do make it big, it will be from real skills and hard work. Not BS bragging about myself like Jay-Z does and just by chanting whack rhymes and living off of B.I.G's fat carcass like Puff Daddy. Oh yeah, and they both sell bad overpriced clothes to idiots. Wow.

I do. Except I see real live bands not simple beats I can make in my bedroom. I also taught myself guitar. I don't see either JZ or PD doing that.

The term "hater" is a defense mechanism created by "players" for people who see through their BS and know they are dumb. I will respect anyone with money who earned it with hard work. Not by peddling weak raps to dumb high school whiteboys.
