What is going on with Anandtech[Missing reviews]?

We didn't get a full 980 review, only a preview. Last year, the Fury X review was also morbidly late.

Today, we can't even get a preview, the 1070 review is MIA. What is happening? There's been a massive decline in punctuality in the last year or so.

Yes, AT's reviews are in a league of their own, but some of the more high-quality sites like Computerbase.de manage to keep the schedule. Ditto Sweclockers. Same with Gamersnexus.

They make more money from reviewing phones.
Which are often weeks to months late as well. The S7 full review has been pending for nearly 3 months.

They have pretty much become like Valve, they'll publish when they are ready. Nothing else matters.

All that is very fair. But, the downside of this is over time things get out of control. I'm sure Ryan & co realise that and hope they will start reigning it in.

Never got 960, full Pascal dive is still missing, didn't review much of anything from the r9 300 series....
It's really, really disappointing.

What a bunch of whiners. There is plenty of average gpu and cpu reviews on the net. Quality takes time.
We have just 2 excellent pieces of journalism about arm new cpu and gpu.
Ryan sets a damn high standard and it shows. Bar none the best on the net.

If you want crap and rants go to thg and h.

Or, we remember using this site back when it was a quality site.

Asking for more quality doesn't make you a "whiner". Settling for low quality is not good.

How is something of high quality when it never shows up? Many times now Ryan has promised full reviews for big releases and failed to deliver anything, at all.

Their reviews are still good, they just can't keep a schedule ever since Anand left. They did hire more writers, though I think they need a full time editor to exclusively do pipeline stories. Also they should push out more initial reviews and impressions as soon as their NDAs expire and save the deep dives for later.

Also the 1070 was added yesterday to Bench, so they have done some work on it.

They never even finished the Samsung S7 review.

The site is dying.

Reviews of tech stuff are now commodities, especially with things like Youtube.

Sure one can say Anand reviews tends to be really technically in-depth which I will be the first to say I enjoy reading that and more than appreciate the effort, but ultimately that has little to no bearing to influence a purchase decision.

Anandtech's GPU reviews have never been great in terms of benchmarks. But I always enjoyed the in-depth discussion of architecture and other stuff that you don't get in most of the benchmark-only reviews.

I've just joined the forums recently and the articles here are still some of the best, just they slowed down way too much after Anand left.

Yup, sounds like more staff needed.

I think it's several things working in tandem. AT is one of, possible the, biggest tech site on the web. In the larger scheme of tech releases GPUs are not that big a deal or that large a market compared to smartphones and other stuff. Also, their reviews are pretty extensive. I know some other sites do a bunch of graphs and test games umpteen times over, but raw details on the hardware is not comparable to what they do here.

I think it's mostly the former though. GPUs might be a big deal to the forum posters here, but a new smartphone is a much bigger deal to more people than the latest high end video card. A video card that probably accounts for the smallest sales volume out of discreet GPUs due to its cost. So it's mostly just a matter of interest to say here is what the most advanced tech is in gaming GPUs, that hardly anyone will actually buy.

Let's just all agree that since Anand left this site is gutter trash for reviews being on time or coming out at all.

Yup, real shame 🙁 Same thing seems to be happening at my other regular site, Techreport. The founder leaves, and everything starts to break down.
Same here.

I guess I'll have to try reading german agian. Thought I left that behind in highschool.

First of all AT's GPU reviews are very mediocre compared to many sites who does way more extensive reviews.AT's main strength was CPU (which was in a completely different league save David Kanter from RWT) and their SSD reviews.Since Anand left they have also become very average to say the least, at this moment I don't even expect their reviews to be on time.

Not only that, but it seems they have ventured towards more "IT" tech vs consumer tech in regards to news, etc.

It used to be you would refresh page constantly to hope for review of some hot product, but now its not even worth it.

Indepth review is nice, but not reviewing up and coming products and just the "hot" stuff is what kills a site.

Motherboard reviews are almost nonexistent. They used to do random articles like motherboard roundups for the year, or CPU roundups.

But it just..stopped.

Is there a tech website that is like that anymore, or is it all just copy and paste PR notices? Most the ones people link to here are in another language with bad translation, or with terrible layouts, or just gosip websites.

Meh. No doubt the sale of Anandtech was a great opportunity for guys with a potential agenda to gain some market share. Anandtech was sold to the same crowd who owns Tom's Hardware iirc, so why compete against themselves for hardware reviews?

We've also had an influx of advertisements and data mining, and I'm sure there'll be more as time goes by (I can barely visit tom's on my smartphone these days). Sure, I need to enable ~30 scripts just to use these forums...
