What is different about your state?

What does your state do differently from most other states? Does it thumb its nose at the rest of the country in some way?

For example:

My state (Oregon) has a "death with dignity" law (assisted suicide), allows medical marijuana, and doesn't let you pump your own gas. And it has no sales tax.

Share your local oddities. 🙂

Edit: if you're not in the US, share with us your province or country's eccentricities.
Edit 2: I thought it was obvious, but please share what state/province/country you're talking about, otherwise this thread isn't so interesting.

Nothing really, I'm mainly solid and comprised of a lot of liquid plus, occasionally, gas.

We're hella smug.

Edit: On a more serious note, the one thing most people seem to not realize about CA is how varied it is. CA is not Los Angeles, and it's not SF/Silicon Valley.

I think we have the highest drunken driving rates in the nation, 1.5Oz or less of marijuana is legal to possess in your house (in the capitol city), getting caught with marijuana is the equivelent of a parking ticket and doesn't go on your record (once again in the capitol city), you can never carry a concealed weapon (we have some of the strictest gun laws in the nation).

That's all I can come up with off the top of my head.

edit: Madison, WI

We secretly chuckle when tourists from other states and countries get chewed on by Polar Bears and other critters at the zoo, or in the wild for that matter.

Of course, that could happen at this little plot here, there have been bear tracks found near the back edge of the property line.

Please include which state/province/country you're referring to when you post (little button called "Edit" on the lower right of your post, if you've already posted.) 🙂

I've driven through Georgia a few times. You're absolutely right.

I remember, from when I lived in California, that school children don't have to bring school supplies (pencils, paper, crayons, that sort of thing) to school because they were provided by the school by state law.

haha, that would be parts of indiana. edit( that don't have daylight savings)

michigan: we have the UP, one of the most remote parts of the country east of the mis. I love living up here.
