BMI is fine for people that aren't particularly active. It falls apart when you're drinking nothing but protein shakes and pumping iron everyday. Possibly tossing some roids into the mix.

Why not use BF% which is accurate across the board.

Because that requires mroe measurment and even then how you measure and what type of tool you use can give different numbers.

Precision and accuracy aren't the same thing. BMI is neither precise nor accurate.

Because I don't have a caliper or one of those pod things and I only do a reasonable amount of exercise.

If I had a BMI over 30 and didn't have some reasonable excuse for it I would pay a bit more attention to it. It's not for body builders to judge how ripped they are; it's just an easy way to break weight/height into ranges that have statistical significance.

I actually did at one point have a BMI of 35.7 at my heaviest weight and I took steps to bring it down.

 That's right in the middle of the "healthy" range. Unless you never work out and are just naturally thin, what's wrong with that number?

25.01. Just barely overweight. I was the same weight in high school when I was made entirely of glistening, rippling muscle. Since starting up an exercise regimen 1.5 years ago I've gotten some of that back, but I'm not quite as lean as I used to be.

16% body fat, according to the health lady at work, this is right on target for someone that is about 6'1 and 175lbs like me. :)

Because it's a body MASS index. Regardless if it's muscle or fat, it's still addional mass. The more mass you have the harder your heart has to work to pump blood to where it needs to go. It's still a risk factor.

Yup, gaining amounts of muscle isn't necessarily "healthy" for you. Worth the risk for me though.

According to the BMI scale I was borderline obese when I was starting safety on my college team. Okay, I can accept that some of the linemen could be considered obese, but safety? Most of the receivers, cornerbacks and running backs were overweight/obese too. I'm 6'1" and 210 or so and am still considered to be very overweight. The BMI scale is rubbish.

BMI is fine unless you're a crazy bodybuilder or whatever. For most people who play some sports and are decently fit it's great. If you're football player status it might not work but I'm willing to bet ATOT has a lot of fat people.

BMI is retarded. When I graduated from high school I weighed ~235 pounds and was in very good physical condition. I could have lost probably 10 additional pounds of fat before it would have been unhealthy for me to lose any more. BMI says I should be 185 pounds. Absolutely unpossible for me to ever to be that weight without severing a limb. I am just a big guy and in tip-top shape I would be lucky to hit 230. BMI wants me to lose an additional 45 pounds which is just stupid.

Edit: BMI is 32

Yes, yes, we have all seen the BMI bashing over and over and over here (I agree by the way) but just answer the fucking question and post your BMI. Good grief.

6' at 182 pounds. Barely in the normal range - 24.75

BMI is not a measure of fitness though, all it does is measure your mass to your height ratio. TallBill has higher BMI, yet he's far more athletic than I am.

I had a physical like 5 months ago and had high normal cholesterol that I was able to correct in a few months just cutting some things in my diet.

At the same time I was told I was 18 lbs overwieght. Ive lost 11 lbs so far without dieting but my hip bones are starting to poke out , my shoulders are smaller and look bony and I can see all my ribs.

I dont think BMI is accurate.

If I stopped working out I'd actually lose weight and be lower, which just goes to show you that BMI isn't a very useful way of measuring healthy weight. :p
