What is a reasonable punishment for being late to class in the morning?

But seriously, in my school, 3 lates = 1 unexcused absence. 1 unexcused abdsence = 1 detention. That was the school policy, and the teachers could either uphold it, increase the punishment, or not enforce it at all.
When I was late to US History in 10th grade, for every one lateness I needed to do the extra questions at the end of the section we were doing that day.
