My used Glock 17 (9mm) was $500 and is a lot more fun and cheaper to shoot.

Not enough cock satisfaction with a HiPoint?

CDNN sells them, but they do not advertise on their website. you have to get a catalog.

IIRC, their catalog is downloadable in PDF format.

Up that to 250ish and pick up a Ruger P89.

They aren't pretty but they are nigh on indestructible.

Pretty damn accurate too.

I had one and really liked it - if you put Hogue grips on them, they don't look too shabby. I think I should buy it back from my father-in-law. :(

I have a Sig P228. It was already great to shoot when I got it, but Hogue grips seriously made it like a dream.

If you're talking about my thread, then that gun is a great gun for the money and is on sale right now at Bass Pro Shops for $379, which is why I bought it when I did.

not to burst your bubble, but you might have been able to get it cheaper at a local gunshop instead of a chain store. i know Gander Mountain's prices are liek $100 more expensive than the local shop I've bought guns from before.

FEG Hi-Power clone if you can find it. One of the best values in the $200-$250 range. Shoots cheap 9mm, very reliable, and built like a tank.

Sounds like a great gun actually, I will have to rent it tonight.

My buddy just picked up a very nice fun over the weekend...I do not even remember what it is called!

I also had never shot a handgun before, so I was wondering what a decent 200-300$ gun was, that I could use for self defense, or for the range with him.

Glock sounds cool :p. time to go fill out my handgun purchasing app!

Start out with a nice water pistol, maybe a Super Soaker if you want to go high end. Given this post I would not feel it safe to go outside if you had a real weapon.

good jokes in this thread...but if I seriously had a gun, you think I would go blasting off heads or something..? I would go to the range a few times a year, maybe, and it'd stay locked away...

I saw a NIB Charles Daly Hi-power for ~$260 when I lived in Florida. I wish I had purchased it.

Was that directed at me?

I looked online first and couldn't find it for cheaper.

I think I will look at those Sig-Sauer P22x handguns, they sound like a great fit with price, and even a bit of modding to make me learn more about it.

If you decide you want one, better start adjusting your price range now ;)

You get what you pay for in a sig though. I love my sig 229.

Yeah, that is what my friend keeps saying. there is a gun EXPO that is coming to Minneapolis in 2 weekends, you can shoot any gun you want I was told. I will probably figure what is my best fit there.

QFT...that surplus site that sells the cheap naguts (sp?) had a few.

A revolver is pretty hard to get wrong, whereas a cheap automatic ends up sooner or later jamming.

The Nagants don't use the cheapest ammo though...

If you get a Sig, just make sure get one that says "Made in Germany". The newer ones are "Frame made in Germany" and then finished in the US and for the most part are junk compared to the older Sigs. Their new CEO cut corners and quality while keeping the price the same to boost profits.

Well, not knowing the whole company, with metal prices going through the roof and power also goign the same route. They may be doing this so they don;t have the raise prices. So you see them trying to save money while keeping the same price while it could be they do this so they don;t have th raise the price?

Hipoint is pretty much the biggest piece of shit you can buy. Take the suggestions here and get something decent.

Bersa Thunder .380 ftw. Conceals nicely in my pocket or on my ankle. Also look into sig sauer and taurus. You glock lovers can keep them. I like guns that are made of metal, not plastic.

A real handgun is not made from recycled Christmas ornament hooks.

bersa thunder .380s and kel-tec's .380 and 9mm are around $250 or so last time I checked. lots of people love the bersas and i've heard a lot of mixed reviews on the kel-tecs.
i wouldn't want to use either a range gun, shooting for fun, because they are small and made for concealed carry. I own a bersa.

My girlfriend's got a bersa 9mm and a kel-tec .380 and both of them are a piece of shit. With firearms, I honestly do believe you get what you pay for. I'd save a little more than ~$250.

for $250 you can get a rossi or tuarus .38 revolver. I have a rossi and it's a great revolver. Sure it's no air weight Smith and Wesson, but it's a quality gun. If you can I would suggest saving up a few hundred more. If you can budget $500 you open a world of possibilities. Now you're in the new Glock Springfield XD's, various 1911's ect.
But be prepared, getting into guns is expensive. Soon you'll want more. You'll want a rifle and a shotgun.

Check out www.thehighroad.org for a gun based forum
www.glocktalk.com is another. There are a bunch out there and I would suggest that you head over to one of those sites and post so you can get honest answers from people that know and your threads won't get crapped on by people that think it's ok to selectively follow the Constitution.

I concur - I love my PT145.
