What if you don't exist at all and this is all just a figment of your own imagination.

I used to believe in a creator, but then you came along.
Why would a creator torture us so? I can understand murder, disease, and all that but...
you?
If there is a creator, he loves to show us what hell is like.
Would it be like AT with people only asking such deep philisophical questions with no meaning or without having any understanding of the question itself?
That would be my own personal hell.
You, Harcadio, are my own personal hell.

Simpsons did it.

I've had this same thought since I was a kid, and I was far from the first.

Take a philosophy class.

If he decides to toss us in the trash or something, and destroy the Universe, well, no one will be left to care. Poof, we're gone....oh well. At least we had any shot at existence to begin with.

"I'M SIGNIFICANT!!!", shouted the speck of dust.

You're a moron, that's the answer to all of your questions. You can stop asking now.

and if it is, does it really matter? I mean, wtf are you going to do to stop it?

Right now we can't do anything about it, but in the future, we might develop the technology necessary to get outside this universe before it is destroyed.

ok...you'll be dead by then, so again, does it really matter?

and where exactly would we go? if this universe is a science experiment and we are just super tiny, where would we find anything similar to what we have now?

Assuming this Universe is NOT some experiment, and that it's a bubble of spacetime floating about in "something," then maybe after our technology's advanced another billion years or so, maybe we'll have found a way of breaking out of spacetime, and exploring whatever lies beyond it.
Would it be anything remotely similar to what we have now? Most certainly not. Hell, basic causality as we know it might not even be present.

Im an atheist

But if I think if some sort of higher being existed, and he DID create us, we're a huge social experiment. Earth is a plaentary Vault. Some other planet will have a poor soul with a single crate of puppets. Its not any less likely than any religion. Why not.

Heh, funny you mention that. Obviously other universes exist where basic causality doesn't... look at this thread!

Actually to be honest - who says we don't already have the technology to do so. Imagination, it's the only thing faster than the speed of light. It allows us to warp reality, and in fact also allows us to escape standard causality. Who's to say that our subconscious isn't tapping into these other universes when we "wander", our dreams for instance generally defy logic and causality. There is a hell of a lot more there than one might first think.
