What if immortality is attainable, how will we deal with population control?

Everybody gets to whack everybody else... like highlander (there can be only one!).
 
it would not be an issue. if we were immortal, why would we fight over food and resources. we could just escape to other planets and such to aquire more land and whatever resources we would need.

I would hope that when that time comes, we'll also be able to better deal with our instinctual urges.
