That wouldn't technically be suicide, as you had not yet taken your own life.

It'd be suicide if the wine was expensive.

What's the Bible?

(better yet, why do people always think it's "THE" authority when it comes to spirituality and your relationship with GOD?)

<< the question wasn't whether we have a soul or if god exists etc. it was more of a if you kill youself do you go to hell type of question. If you don't believe that such places exist then if you kill yourself does it matter at all? >>

Well if you don't believe in hell or heaven AND if hell and heaven didn't exist, i guess killing yourself wouldn't really matter except for your friends and family. Now if you do believe in God i guess you would go to hell. But i believe in God and i'm not even sure if there is no redemption for sucide. I don't try to figure everything out about God. I can't stand religious people. Just Christians.

People can have whatever belief they want. That's what's so great about human life. But i'm just curious, for those people who don't believe in God OR a god. What if there did turn out to be a god. Would you except it and take whatever consquence that came(good or bad)? What would you say or do?

I know the question can be turned around on people that do believe in God. But the awnser would easily be... Nothing. B/c your dead and there would be no god... right.

Me: Look, closely, as I light this match. See it burning? That's fire.

Religious Fanatic: Fire? Fire is a myth. You cant prove it. You're going to hell.

Me: This is a dinosaur skull. It was called 'Tyrannasaurus Rex'. It is over 200,000 years old.

Religious Fanatic: Earth is only 7000 years old. Dinosaurs are a myth. Prove they existed.

Me: If there was a god, and he loved us, wouldnt he come hang out with us? Or maybe show up to say WAZZZUP?

Religious Fanatic: Th, That's not how it works. We live here, die, and THEN meet him. Yeah.

Me: Have you ever heard the phrase, "you're as dumb as a rock"?

Religious Fanatic: Yes.

Me: I have this pet rock. It's dumb. Know what I told it the other day? Oh this is so funny. I said,"Wally, my pet rock buddy, you are SOooo dumb, your as dumb as a Religious Fanatic". Get it? Get it?

Sorry I have to be an A$$, but ignorance is not bliss; ignorance is ignorance. I greatly respect those with good morals, values, and who live healthy, peaceful lives. I am bored at work and lashing out against those who are different than me makes me feel better about sitting in this stupid $300 chair all day, staring at a computer screen.

Why is it that so many people always connect belief in GOD with belief in HELL??? Am I missing something here? Is it written anywhere that CHRISITIANS have the one and only spiritual interpretation to GOD? (Oh yeah, the Bible). Who died and make CHRISTIANS the one and only source to get in touch with GOD (Oh yeah, jesus did).
Please excuse my sarcasm here, I'm only trying to convey a message. What I'm saying is that there are other philosophies, spiritual practices, and even other schools of institutionalized spirituality (Religions) that pre-date Christianity, believe in GOD.....and do not accept/acknowledge this silly place people call HELL.

not every christian is a fanatic. unfortunately some are, and have created a bad reputation for the ones that have it right ;)

as far as suicide, I think the Bible talks about Jesus being crucified so our sins would be forgiven. SO- if you take your own life, (thalt shall not kill, or whatnot) I think your sin is already forgiven. that is, if you belive in the Bible and Jesus.

Your question is definitely thought-provoking and one humanity has yet to come to grips with.

Which is why I consider myself to be an Agnostic. I don't pretend to know the answers - I think it's hasty and premature to take make a definite decision either way - we just don't plain know. We could sit here and argue for hours, and we probably will, and yet in the end we won't know for sure. In my eyes, is near impossible to know whether God exists or not.

But that's just me. In the end, I honestly don't care what you believe. :)

There is no unpardonable sin that a person can commit in the flesh so I presume you'd have an opportunity to work it out with your maker. No, neither murder nor suicide are the "unpardonable" sin.

Of course, if you have no soul, then this is all irrelevant.

<< Do you (your soul) go to hell if you kill yourself? >>

That's like locking your children in a closet for the rest of the day because the 'spilt their milk'.

Let's say you do believe in some ineffable cosmic purpose, your existence which is part of this grand scheme. And let's say that this grand scheme or plan is being orchestrated (sp?) by some form of consciousness. This consciousness that some might call GOD, somehow makes you conscious of it, yourself and reality. Perhaps it's like a school, some people might call it Life on Earth, a school much like traditional education schools in which we make mistakes all the time, except maybe this schools is to help you, a spiritual being grow through experience and love. Now I don't know about you, but when you make many mistakes in school they don't throw you out for the rest of eternity, you might have to do it all over again and it might take a little longer, but they don't necessarily expel you for enternity.

We our all children, children make mistakes, some mistakes might mean the end of the world but does there exist such a selfish act that GOD would condemn you/your soul (not just give up on you, worse) to a place of such horrible-ness for all eternity? Come on! ;)

I don't know. Why don't you do a "theory to practice".

The point is that, if you're a Christian, your sins are forgiven past present and future. Part of becoming a Christian is accepting the forgiveness that Christ is extending to you from his death on the cross. If you kill yourself, you're already forgiven. If you're a Christian, you's goin' ta heaven. If you're not, burn baby!

Get it?

The answer to your question is in the context of what religion you believe in. Certainly Christian literature would indicate that you are either going to hell or going to purgatory if you do something stupid like snuff yourself.

Other religions don't have the same belief about the significance of ending your own existance.

Like many things in religion, the rules seem to magically get bent under special circumstances. As an example many devout Christian pilots during WWI kept pistols in their cockpits so that they could shoot themselves if their plane caught on fire. Many secret agents during WWII took poison to kill themselves rather than giving away secrets.

Frankly, if there is some afterlife (doubtfull) I think that a divine being has better things to concern itself with than the method in which we die.

Part of the problem with many organized religions is that they are a natural outgrowth of human ego and self-centered-ness... thus raising questions like this one.

Yes, forgiveness is not a finite, temporary thing. Salvation is a single instant declaration from God: Not Guilty. If you don't understand what the nature of your forgiveness is, it's because you don't understand the nature of your sin.

I know that you are either a troll or a nef. And you are incredibly stupid. Go get some mental help. It is obvious that you need it.

<< The same thing that happens when you normally die. >>

- only sooner

separate belief from knowledge for a moment.

what do you know about your soul?
what do you believe about your soul?

what do you know about suicide?
what do you believe about suicide?

the very best anyone can say with accuracy is "I don't know"

ever notice how everyone who has had a "life after death" experience is strangely enough still alive? that I know

life may suck sometimes, but at least it is a known quantity. it is also great sometimes. most of the time it is neither - this I know

there is only one way to find out and, frankly, it seems like an awfully risky way to acquire the knowledge. I know a flame will burn my hand because I have burned my hand before. experience has burned my soul before, but I am not sure how. the lack of life, and there fore experience, what will it do to my soul?

there is no answer.

with a degree in pilosophy, I suggest you go read some Wittgenstein. The later stuff.

I've been told that you be burned in hell for eternity, never to be reborn. So why end your life so soon when you have so much to live for and 100 years is not that long wait for you to past away painlessly. In the end, we will be together again with god whether you like it or not. :D

I'm sorry you were picked on as a kid...plus you're pretty ignorant for either a) not getting the point of this thread or b) getting it and bashing ppl off of a tangent.

BTW, I don't believe in souls, but then again my chair only cost me 40 bucks.
