50 mg a day is certainly not enough.

Maybe check your units?

what is checking my units?

i looked at the past 10 days on MFP and i averaged a little over 50 mg a day. i dont have any sort of training/workout regimen yet, besides walking a couple miles a day.

i haven't changed my diet, so it feels normal. normal is never awesome, but generally pretty good. sometimes a little lethargic though.

maybe if i started working out it would have some noticeable affect, but right now i am just in sort of a weight-loss-by-eating-less mode. i realize thats probably half as effective as it would be if i was working out. hopefully this week i can get a plan together.

Depends on what your goals are. What are you trying to do? Here's an interesting article on grams per pound:

http://bayesianbodybuilding.com/the-myth-of-1glb-optimal-protein-intake-for-bodybuilders/

Adult men need a minimum of 56 grams of protein per day:

http://www.cdc.gov/nutrition/everyone/basics/protein.html

WebMD says you should get a minimum of 10% of your calories from protein, with a max of 35%:

http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/protein

What is your typical diet like in a day?

Everything will seem normal then it'll feel like just a bad headache then BAM protein deficiency embolism. The silent killer.

20-50g is not enough. Considering your a size 46 waist, I am guessing you're a min of 300lb? If you're something like 50% body fat, then I'd wager you should not be having any less than 150g a day of protein.

But since you're body fat is so high, you should bump it up even more in favor of having significantly less carbs. Drink plenty of water... Fruits & veggies, blahblah read the fatloss sticky.

OP, what ever you think your lean muscle mass is (your weight minus your fat), eat that much in proteins (each lb = one gram of protein) and then you can do a mix of fats and carbs to make up the rest of your daily calorie needs. I would not go much above 20% fat; but that's what works for me. Some go as high as 30% with good results.

For Carbs, try to avoid the highly-glycemic ones (google it). Pick a sweet potato over a white potato, green vegetables esp. leafy ones, etc.

Apparently, you develop the unique ability to write awesome poems in ATOT.

Maybe I should stop eating protein.

Apple Sauce (Trick Name)
Take cabbage, broccoli, carrots, tomatoes and ginger and boil for 2 hours. Then let cool like overnight. When cool add two bananas, and 2-3 apples, and some cinnamon and blend thoroughly. It makes a smoothie similar to apple sauce. If you have Diabetes, this is suppose to control your a1c. Serving size 1 cup. I eat this at breakfast and supper. Takes some getting use to.

You have to have some kind of exercise for both cardiac and upper body strength.

The less exercise you do the worse you will feel.

if his waist size is a 46... eating that little of protein I am guessing is going to bring on a decent case of type 2 sugarbetes

erm....not good.

Your body needs it. as it needs fats, carbs.

It's not called a balanced diet for nothing...

Had a friend go that way. Left behind a nice pair of shoes for me though! :awe:
