What happened to the default ? I can't stand this layout.

ONCE EVERY 12 MONTHS. You didn't read the fine print?

I've neither the hair nor the arterial integrity for that.

Hey, @jpishgar , a little help, please. There was no warning sign, "DO NOT PUSH THIS BUTTON."

I strongly caution against pushing any buttons, ever.

Recent email exchange of Purch employees reviewing the changes:

I haven't the heart to tell you that we're no longer Purch. Welcome to the Future. Future plc to be precise. Your step-brothers are now PC Gamer, TechRadar, and cool hundred or so other sites. No worries, you're still in the good hands with me and my team.

You have to wonder if any of the site moderators reviewed the beta?

They did! They kept you from experiencing the worst of it.

Gotta say, never thought I'd see the day where a community manager said Boujee. Huh

I speak Millenial, High Corporate Buzztongue, bits of Klingon and Elven, and sometimes...

But that's rarer now that there's all these nifty spam prevention functions.

Not sure on the ETA for the color changes. Probably not more than a full day.

I'm using element blocker to eliminate white space and it works great. But anyone know what the blank space at the top is? ###header_leaderboard
Is that where the forum announcements show up or is that a useless element?

On the bright side we can all spam zZz reactions on Mayne posts now.

Wow, "Welcome to the Future (PLC) indeed." Good info, thanks. And no, I have no idea what a boojee is, I don't speak Millenial.

Btw. this default layout is fine by me, thus far, although I assume that there might be some small tweaking. I view it at around 60-70% of the width of my 40" 4K UHD screen, at 133% zoom in Firefox Nightly.

And as far as the orange color goes, personally, it's a heck of a lot better than the medium grey-on-light-grey that the prior forum revision and theme used, especially for the "new topics" sidebar. Made it VERY hard to read at 100% scale on my 4K UHD screen. Not nearly enough contrast. The orange, OTOH, does have good contrast. I like it better than most other options.

THIS IS HORSE SHIT.

First they change ATOT to ATOTDC. Now this unsightly layout that has next to no UCD.

Why the fuck are the link groupings at the bottom red, and the rest of the buttons orange?

Heya guys,

Got a lingering issue that we could use your help on.
Open an Incognito browser window and navigate to the forum main page, here:
https://forums.anandtech.com/

Does it show up for you? Or not? This would be very helpful information in the scavenger hunt on this lingering caching issue.

Thanks in advance!

Why the **** are the link groupings at the bottom red, and the rest of the buttons orange?
Stuff is orange because the AnandTech color scheme is (*looks at the AnandTech editorial page*) and has been orange, and light/blue cyan with white. Though, this will be changing, as evidenced by the clear and resounding response against the citrusy flavor.

The red below in the footer is placeholder, really, until we get ourselves situated with a fine Future footer fabricated to finish the forum fixings.

Woah when did that happen?? Interesting group there in future..

boujee = bourgeoisie. Late millenial -> GenZ thing

I don''t see any way to click into the first post of a thread on the forum listing page if you've visited the thread before. I may be wrong, but I believe the thread title in the old design would always link to the first post.

There were also individual page links at the forum listing level. Can those be returned?

A couple of other things:

The first two links in the breadcrumbs list - the 'home' button and the 'Forums' text link - link to the same thing. One of them could be eliminated.

On the forum home page, which displays the master forum list, the text descriptions of the forums don't seem necessary, and they bloat the page badly. Takes a lot of scrolling to get to bottom. It could be tightened up quite a bit.

*Edit*

Ah... I see that these things aren't as badly handled in the Default theme. The page numbers are there, links to the first post, no forum descriptions...

Hmm.... maybe I should be modifying the Default theme to my liking instead of the AnandTech theme.

I hope this looks freaking fantastic on a phone because it's impossible to believe that anyone previewed this on a computer monitor and approved. This is 10 times worse than the old Xenforo default theme and that was unusable. This is complete garbage. Who did the VBulletin theme that most of us were using, Ken g6 if memory serves? Ken, please save us again!!
I've been looking at it. The Default Style is better in most ways, except things like Post Count don't seem to be included. The AnandTech Style has awfully small avatars, though. I'm not sure which style to work from.

I'm just waiting for the smart users around here to start writing and posting proper scripts that fix this ungodly mess. First, I need those garbage tool boxes on the right side of my page eliminated. Then, some proper color themes.

edit--lol oh Snap! clicking that little "tri-colon" do-hooky next to the blue reply button up top fixes the sidesbar! interestingly enough, that doo-hicky is called "sidebar."

😀

We call that the "pancake stack" in the web development world 🙂

Wait... Can we upload pictures directly here?
Like if someone was in the bath and a bit drunk they could take a picture and post it without faffing with an image host?

That's just a totally random example btw!
