Is .357 sig bad compared to other rounds?

availability of ammo is low....performance is between a 9mm and .40, both of which can be shot for a lot less unless you reload. basically, you'll just be getting less practice in with it. .357sig is a great round, the ammo is scarce though.

Performance is not "between a 9mm and .40." I would say it matches or exceeds a .40. It's essentially a really hot 9mm. I carry an H&K USP Compact in .357 sig whenever I carry.

The Secret Service uses .357 sig.

Also I keep a magazine of hot +P .357 sig FMJs around when I carry. It'll punch through pretty much any soft body armor out there.

SS uses it because it penetrates car windshields. I don't think it's a "practical" round to carry, even for cops. Your risk of over penetrating is higher and in a concealed carry capacity where it's really important you don't hurt anyone besides the bad guy...

Also seriously, the odds of someone attacking you that is wearing body armor is very, very low. If that's a real concern you should get a pistol in 5.56 with M855 or something lol

ah, everything i read said it was between 9 and .40. It still will be relatively expensive for him to shoot it for self defense though...

This. And honestly, in the very rare chance that you do end up against someone with body armor, that's why you carry a gun with decent sights and train for headshots. You may say it's unlikely I'll be able to make a clean one under stress, I say the odds of my having to make one in the first place are even less likely.

With Speer gold dots or Winchester Hydrashoks I don't think over penetration is much of an issue (see FBI gelatin test above.) I just keep a mag of FMJ in my shoulder rig if I'm wearing it, or in the car if I'm not.

And I already have the only pistol that shoots 5.7mm 😉 It's too large to conceal comfortably. My bedside gun is a 9" barrel PS90 loaded with 50 rounds of AP 5.7 though. I tend to think that in my case, I'm more likely to have my home invaded by a group of men wearing body armor than anyone else. Take that for what you will.

Anyone have a Glock 33? I've always wanted to pick one up. Any good?

Always buy sig anything else is complete trash.

Sig is like an A

next closest is H&K but only warrants a C there are no B's only D&F after that. JMO after some experience..

Try yourself, feel, mechanics, trigger, machining, attention to detail, options. Nothing is close.

Check out P229 or P239 compared to G33. Play with them, you'll choose Sig unless all you have is exactly $500. They all shoot just like all cars drive but nothing is like a sig. G33 = Hyundai Sig = S class.

Yeah, this line is full of stupid.

Don't get me wrong Sigs are awesome, but there's no reason a Glock can't do the same job as the equivalent Sig, just as effectively, for less money. Same goes for other systems/brands. The most you'll get out of a Sig compared to a Glock is a slight increase in reliability and better ergos, both of which are highly if not completely subjective. Some also say Sigs are slightly more accurate, I'd say the difference is negligible for defensive use.

I repeat

Accuracy is 1911s hands down as they win ever open pistol comp around. I'm not taking about accuracy read my post again. One is a fine machine, others not so much.

If you don't care about the "subjective" things I suggest a Armscor, Hi Points, Kel-Tecs or Taurus' all in at less than $200 Don't waste your hard earned money on a Glock or Sig.

Seriously dudes just go check out G33 vs the sigs you'll see what I'm talking about.

Did you not see that crazy wound channel

357 Sig is from Sig, of course it's best like their guns.🙂 I'm locked into .45 having thousands of rounds acquired over the years or I'd have 357SIG. Feeds awesome shoots awesome.

Sig's are great guns, I'm not going to dispute that. There are other good guns though...XD's and Glocks are great for a ~$500 budget. The Sig 250 or whatever their polymer gun in that budget is was kind of a flop.

Sig makes mistakes, or should I say making equal priced guns to competitors, then naturally is a lessor gun as you get what you pay for. Also my 556 is pretty weak compared to a good ole AR IMO. Very front heavy with a lot of slop between upper and lower. No ones perfect... But 220s, 226's, 229's 239's and 232's FTW.

Also FNPs is in there...way unappreciated compared to XD or Glock. 15rd 45😛😀

Take off your America tinted glasses. Canada is not the only place in the world where I would feel safe strolling the streets unarmed. Just about all of Europe, Japan, and much of Asia come to mind as well.

This is how I know you haven't spent any real time there. There are plenty of places in Europe that I wouldn't go, gun or otherwise.
