Hard to say...really I am one of those people who never really cared for The Beatles, The Doors, Zepplin (I like some songs, just not overly a fan like many people are).

Rush. When I first heard Limelight on the radio I went to target to find the album. I knew the song but not the name of the band. I lucked out since the album art drew me in and I flipped it over to read the track listings.

Hah! I've always classified Widespread as the power chord fratboy version of a jam band. :D
Makes sense. They're about the only jam band I like. I've got several of their CDs. I don't like most of that Mumford and Sons, Magnetic Zeroes type stuff. I don't tend to get too far off the rails when it comes to music.

First two albums I bought were Green Day "Dookie" and Dr. Dre 'The Chronic"

Just a couple of classic albums in their genres, pretty much everything post them can be owed to them

I was raised on classic rock but those were the two albums I bought first when I was 12 or 13

Of course I listen to all sorts of shit from Beatles, Zeppelin, Yes, King Crimson, Mahavishnu, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Hella, Tera Melos, Lightning Bolt, Russian Circles

Wowee!! Nice to agree on Something!! :D

And add:
* Pink Floyd
* Yes
* Moody Blue's
* etc.

AMEN BROTHA!

And I think Zeppelin wins this thread too!

And I agree, Floyd was a close second to Zep. Two amazing rock bands with their fair share of ballads and just straight up epic choons. I mean numerous of their albums were considered complete and total smashes well beyond just having a hit or two on them.

Listening to the Song Remains the Same as we speak!

Tough question. All through my youth I appreciated music. Would listen to my parents Records constantly which included Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Elvis, Hank Snow, and many other 50's-70's Country and Rock. There was no Beatles or the more Hippyish Rock of the 60's, but there was a lot of great music.

I prefer to view the question as: What Group lead to your personal taste in music. For that it was this song:
I don't recall how that Single record made it into our home, I have a vague feeling it was something acquired at a Swap Meet, possibly at school. Whatever it was, the first time I heard it blew my mind. Funny thing is I'm not really a Stones fan and never was, although I really like a few of their songs. It wasn't really that I loved this song, it was that this song was so different from what my Parents liked that it was revolutionary to me.

I can't really point to any one group as I feel that all of them contributed in some way to my love of music. We wouldn't have the groups and genres that we do today without them. With that said my favorite group is Lacuna Coil followed by Epica, both European bands, which sound far different than the groups of my youth.

It was the music, not a band in particular. The first wave , called pop music , had Elvis, Bobby Darin, Lloyd Price, Ritchie Valens, Fabian, Dianna Washington. Ray Charles, The Big Bopper, etc. That music was energized and followed by Rock and Roll , especially the Stones, Beatles, etc.Then there was toking.

Well LZ on all their Albums--esp the first 4 but all of them-accept for Physical Graffiti-were absolutely otherworldly.

When I listen to their albums now I think--How did JP come up with that stuff?? And how did he record it to sound like that?? Almost like he had help from Alien Intelligence.

Masterful !!

Floyd after Dark Side of the Moon went on a very strange Tangent.

Yes--The Yes Album was great/Close to the Edge--Musicianship was incredible. I also liked 90125 with Trevor Rabin--that guy is a Monster Guitar Player.

I wish we still had music like that--The Golden Age of Guitarists.

I'd love to see what a Hendrix in his prime could do with modern technology.
