I used to love music, now I just listen to pop garbage on the radio when I'm driving.

I feel you man.

Nothing hurts worser than listening to what stains the pop lists these days as hits .

But off list, now there are stars that still shine:

And I drain the blues from this tune site " Stingray Music" which is part of the Rogers cable digital package .

For the car , I sub to Sirius XM for BB's Blues channel.

So all is not lost but it takes more effort these days to climb the stairway.

It's hard for me to pin it down to one band or even just a couple. Born in the 60's but grew up in the 70's so mostly the whole "classic rock" era as i am the youngest in my family & mostly hung out with older kids, so just the variety of music i was exposed to.

Kyuss - Rolling stone reviewed their album "Welcome to Sky Valley" as mix between Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd so I new I'd like them...I think that was '94 and It had a huge impact on the music I listen to

Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. Wow. Saw them in Chicago at the Super Bowl of Rock in 1977 and they had their 113 piece orchestra with them. Foghat played that day also.

To be quite honest with you guys, i can't for life of me know which group or singer made me appreciate music. I'm going to guess it happened during the late 70's-early 80's

It has to be this song, I just heard the other day. It took my music appreciation to a level never before known. You must listen to it all.

I guess I'd have to say this is the first album I really listened to a lot and sang. It was one of the albums in the family console stereo.

Watched Hee Haw with dad, Lawrence Welk with mom, Midnight Special, Kirshner's Rock Concert with my sister. Musical variety shows were big then. Tons of singers had shows. First concert was Elvis when I was 7.

Led Zeppelin.

It's not even close.
Definitely this.
I was first exposed to Led Zeppelin around 1985, when I was 14. Before that, my music collection consisted of cassette tapes of whatever was popular on the Columbia House club. Stuff like Joan Jett, Cyndi Lauper, Blondie, Huey Lewis, The Police, Billy Idol, Van Halen, The Clash.
Then I heard Led Zeppelin and was like, holy shit, this is what music should be. I didn't buy another CD of any other band until I had bought every Zeppelin album. Then I mostly stopped listening to 80's pop music and got into Hendrix, Pink Floyd, and all the amazing music made in the late 60's / early 70's.

Neurosis. Bought Souls at Zero on cassette when I was a youngster; started listening to it on the bus ride home, then just kept playing it over and over and over. I'd never heard anything like it. I'd always loved music, particularly metal and punk, up until then, and had so many albums and bands I thought were incredible, but I never truly appreciated the different things that could be done until I listened to that album. It opened my mind to all kinds of different music too, so I love it for that. My parents made me listen to all of that 60's and 70s stuff, but I never liked it (aside from a few songs here and there); it took me many years of sifting through all kinds of popular and unpopular music to find what I really appreciated and Souls at Zero really helped me get there.

Oh and somehow I managed to forget Suffer from Bad Religion. That album got me into punk a few years earlier; was a completely new sound to me at the time and it really shaped my taste in music.

I had an older brother and Led Zeppelin were like gods to us. Then we went to see them and I left the concert thinking Judas Priest was the greatest band in rock and roll and I was severely disappointed LZ....

As a kid I'd play my parents records all the time. Then latter on I got a cassette player and played Buddy Holly and Johnny Cash all the time. I also had a kid's record player where I played the song Smoke Gets in Your Eyes constantly. I always immersed myself in music so I really can't chose just one band or anything. My musical tastes span from Buddy Holly to new wave, 80's, trip hop and techno with other genres in between.

The Beatles, specifically Sgt. Peppers album. Listened to it often on vinyl as young as 6 or 7. My pops loves them too, so it only made sense. I'm 30 now, ftr.
