What grade do we give the GOP? In terms of being part of the solution?

Thank You Lemon Law for the idea!!
As Lemon stated -- No matter how you cut it, the GOP gets an F minus across the board. Not only did the GOP break it, they now resist any efforts to fix what they broke.

I agree!!! only I will be a little more lenient -- F!!

I give them an A for effort. Working under these conditions is like being waterboarded for 8 hours a day.

I was impressed with how quickly they shifted from being the ruling party, acting responsibly, to being the royal opposition.

Seems to me the only thing the GOP has accomplished is making their party smaller, more extremist, less relevant and less popular. How is it not an uber fail?

The GOP has no desire at this time to be part of any solution that does not involve its return to power with a vengeance.

B-, I gave obama a D on the economy. And even though I'm a democrat, this time the republicans had the right idea, and now no one is listening to them.

I can't think of a single thing the GOP has done in the last 100 days besides incessantly bitch and whine so I'd give them an F.

You have just described every politician and party. A politicians only job is reelection.

C+ mainly because after losing the majority, they seem to want to become (fiscal) conservative again.

had they kept those values, it is unlikely that the party would be in such bad shape right now.

This is the same every time the Republicans get voted out of office for FUBAR'ing the economy. The Democrats get elected to try to fix things...and the Republicans act like a bunch of spoiled brats...and have to be dragged along, kicking and screaming the whole way. Then, once the Dems get things running again, for SOME STUPID reason, the electorate puts the repubs back in office...and we start the process again...
I'm in my mid-50's and I DO NOT remember a time when the repubs actually HELPED the economy...with the possible exception of Ronnie Rayguns following the disasterous Carter years. (who followed 8 horrible years of Nixon/Ford.) I still don't give Ronnie Rayguns credit for actually FIXING things...but things did settle down somewhat following the election...so he gets Republican credit for being a savior...even though he nearly bankrupted the US trying to outspend the Soviets.

The Republican Party already got graded in the last election, and the American people rightfully pushed the NeoCon agenda out of the White House and Congress.

The Republicans need to return to fiscal conservatism...and keep the Democrats spending in check.

They can only be a part of the solution if the majority party allows them to be...both sides are reverting to partisan maneuvering, and without the votes to truly oppose the Democrats, they really have no incentive to play along with the Congressional spending spree.

The Democrats get elected to try to fix things...and the Republicans act like a bunch of spoiled brats...and have to be dragged along, kicking and screaming the whole way.
The minority party should keep the ruling party in check, and not go along with every policy decision.

You talk about how the Democrats always get close to fixing things, and then there is a change of power. There is usually a change in power because the American people grow tired with one party's solution, or the ruling party starts to abuse their power.

How can either party be part of the solution when BOTH are part of the problem.

I can't agree with the notion that the GOP wants to be fiscally conservative. The GOP's only contribution to fixing the economy was to stubbornly offer the same tax cuts mainly to the rich that GWB offered initially.

The GOP has become just a party of ideology they stubbornly cling to after those same ideas failed to work during the GWB era.

And then they rip into Obama for the bank bail out when those policies were started by GWB and Hank Paulson last October.

Which is why I keep asking why those same ideas are still being acted upon by the current administration. ;)

what would you like them to be doing?

democrats are in control of the executive and have a soon-to-be filibuster proof majority in the senate.

I'm trying to think what the dems did to be part of the "solution" against what the GOP congress/executive did and I'm drawing a blank.

Yep, the "fiscal conservatism" of republicans is the greatest myth of modern politics. The zombie Reagan worshipers seem to forget the guy increased the size of government, raised taxes, and massively increased debt.

completely worthless and terrible.

I actually agree, their own proposals have been as bad as the Democrat's.

If Republicans ate babies, you would say they're 'as bad as' the Democrats apparently.

They get an F - A total Fail. They failed so bad, for the reason explained in the OP, they broke it, they wont help fix it, and the funniest part is they still cant even see it for what it is.
