Dark Souls 2!!

I thought dark souls was the most boring, overrated, and bland game of the last 5 years. It was designed not to be hard but to have flawed platforming and awkward areas for the combat. Its difficulty was all artificial since you could just memorize patterns. It also catered to trolls and griefers who only play the game to invade yours and do the back stab dance. Worst combat mechanics in an long, long time.

It didn't help that there was literally no story to follow. There was only lore and a few pieces of dialog about what you are supposed to do. Wandering aimlessly is not my idea of a fun game. At least give me some direction, some background info, some plot. I must have played 10 hours just wandering around doing absolutely nothing of consequence because there was no story. I k ow the game gets praised and fans of it like to think that they are some gaming master because they finished it but it is an exercise in frustration, not ability.

I have the opposite opinion of Dark Souls. I found the mechanics a lot more refreshing than the "mash X to win" of other platformers. It required timing and skill and had a difficulty curve based entirely on the user's abilities. It was the fighting game of platformers. I also loved the PVP, but that was because it was deep and required a lot of meta gaming, plus skill.

The "story" also intrigued me because they didn't hand you everything. If you wanted to know about the world, you had to explore, read items, talk with the sparse NPCs, and infer.

I understand it is a niche piece though. Most people prefer the God of War platformers over something like this. It helps I was a big fan of From Software's other games (King's Field series and Demon's Souls). I believe they incorporated a lot of the story and lore from King's Field into Dark Souls, but without telling anyone.

It won't be released on next gen anyway. PS3, 360, PC as of right now.

On topic, I will be getting Forza 5, KI, and upgrading my Madden. I will probably pick up some other games, but no others really stand out as day one purchases.

Speaking of forza I upgraded mine to the limited edition, figured I could get a head start in career mode with all the cars and money you get to start with.

It gives you a code you enter and it gives you the cars with the special tuning and paint scheme. If you don't like them you can sell them back in the game.

I was just wondering because the DLC packs in Forza 4 just made the cars available in the game. You still had to buy them (and some of those unicorn cars were expensive). =(

Yeah I remember that. I've followed forza 5 pretty closely and everything points to you getting them in your garage. So that's what I'm going with until confirmed otherwise.

The starting balance you get with the limited edition is enough to buy any car in the game though. The real bonus is the special VIP online events.

Wow, I don't think I've met someone on here whose taste in games differs from mine as much as yours does.

When I think of hard games I think of Ninja Gaiden on the original Xbox, on hard. Difficulty based on your reaction times, not based on where you're standing when something attacks you.

When I think of a good RPG I think of things like Persona, Dragon Age Origins etc. Where your actions mean something in the game world and changes the final outcome. As well as having a story that pushes along with the game and doesn't leave you blind.

When I think of good open world games I think of Elder Scrolls, Fallout 3, maybe even GTA. Where you actually have a world that feels alive with interesting things to see and interact with. I don't mind having freedom if there is some clear direction as to what my mission or purpose is when i want to get back to the main game.

I just didn't get any of these things from Dark Souls at all. I got it on sale from Steam though so I had no great loss from not liking it. It's not like it's a terrible game, but I found it to have none of the things I like from any of the genres it's compared to.

PS4

Knack
Watch Dogs
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

When released:
inFAMOUS: Second Son
Destiny

As launch day gets closer, I am looking at possibly getting more games.

I am looking at Need for Speed: Rivals, Battlefield 4, Madden 25 and NBA 2K14 as well. Does anyone have any input on these?

nfs looks extremely "meh" to me. but i do remember that nfs:mw was one of my favorite 360 launch games. but all of the games you are interested in, just keep in mind they are current gen games that are being ported to next gen.

Honestly, I think the game just goes to show how correct marketing can really be effective. Saying "This is a hardcore game and if you can't beat it you suck!!!!" really made people wnat to pick it up just to prove they could beat it. I only got 70-80% or so through it before I fell asleep. It's still there to complete. My brother actually finished it as we kept trading off. I have MUCH less time played and higher levels, my bro though just did what you said. He just pushed through and finished it but that's the thing. We had to PUSH through as it was literally a chore. The game was NOT fun in any remote way.
After loading up BioShock, I was MUCH happier. I don't think I can finish the game. BioShock, TombRaider, Crysis, are all better games and I have Metro2033 and Borderlands 2 to play.
By far one of the most overrated games but people use it to say "I'm a HC gamer who beat it!" Also the "Dying is a punishment!" thing just made me lol. I die, pick up my souls, die pick up my souls, die pick up my souls, then go buy some new balling stuff/level up.
At the end, of the game, it just ended up being a joke. Terrible platforms like you said, the bad controls, low framerates, ugh, the whole game was just horribly crafted it makes me angry.

As for the other thing: Games I will be getting?

At this point, I don't think I'll be getting anything anymore. I wanted to but now that I realize how great PC Gaming is (got my first PC gaming box in 5 years, been gaming on my laptop before), I'm probably just going to play single player titles on PC until I can see which console my friends got. I want to get BF4, but I don't know if i want it on PC (I wish you only had to buy it once and could just freely interchange between consoles....). PC Crowd requires me to game on a mouse/keyboard which is NOT why I set my PC Gaming setup for. But Console crowd means I gotta wait til around January/February to even be able to purchase a console, then figure out where my friends are playing on. It's a hard choice!

Should I look for BF 4 on the PS4 or the PC?

This
Even though it'll obviously look and play better on PC, I'm getting it on PS4 since I don't know anyone that plays games on PC but everyone plays console games.

The PC crowd is hardcore too. Talk about having to try hard lol. Mouse/Keyboard is so accurate if your relexes aren't good you just lose. Vs Console, even if you have great reflexes, control sticks are lols so you can lose.

Not sure yet. Watch Dogs looks the most interesting to me but I'm not sure if I want to get it on the PS4 or PC. I have a decent PC so I should be able to run at higher detail than the PS4, but there's no telling how optimized it will be. Might have to wait and see what people say and decide later.

I have been thinking and decided to get BF4 for the PC, but I have yet to hear anything really positive about Origin.

I will grab Need for Speed: Rivals and leaning towards NBA 2K14.

Origin is fine. No different than any other drm/game launcher. If you avoid a game because of what launcher it uses then you have deep seeded mental problems.

I have generally heard bad things about it. I do not mind Steam at all. So, if Origin is finally "there" then I am fine with it.

I have a hard time caring about the COD/BF games, but if I got one I'd get BF for large scale battles with vehicles. But I'm getting neither.

My pre-orders for the PS4 are:
Killzone
Swap Force
Lego Marvel

I'll get to try the free Driveclub from PS+ along with Resogun. I'm also looking forward to some of the F2P games. I will keep my eye on the reviews for some of the other games like Knack, Watch_dogs and AC:BF.
