Folklore is a pretty fun action RPG type game. I believe its by a European developer, no jRPG cliches, but the story is mostly confusing rubbish anyway.. The gameplay and visuals are both excellent though.

Heavenly Sword is beautiful, but short. If you can find either game in the bargain section, grab them or else rent them. They're both a lot of fun, but I wouldn't say they were worth 60 bucks

edit: or am I to take from the OP that you're only interested in First person shooters?

Uncharted:Drake's Fortune is the best game I've played on my PS3 so far. I have MGS4 but I haven't even opened it yet so can't really say much about that game (obviously).

- Burnout Paradise - great game and currently an incredible value at $19.99
- Metal Gear Solid 4 if you're a fan of the series
- LittleBIGPlanet if you're into platforming
- Ninja Gaiden Sigma
- Killzone 2 ? (02/27)

There are plenty of PSN games worth checking out as well, I haven't played many so I can only recommend:
- Flower
- echochrome
- Bionic Commando Rearmed
- Noby Noby Boy

Only get MGS4 if you're a fan of the series, enjoy crazy story lines, and don't mind sitting back and watching long cut-scenes. If those don't bother you, you're in for one of the best games of this generation.

I hate long cutscenes, especially if you die and have to sit through them again. I just want to get in and shoot stuff.

Sort of, yes. The gameplay is simple in that it basically consists of moving, jumping and grabbing things. But there's a large amount of possibilities in terms of level design. There are also three planes you can move between (foreground, middle ground, background). It would probably be easier to just look at some videos on YouTube to get an idea of what the game is like.

Then stay far away from MGS4.

How about if you've never played a MGS game? I'm actually buying a ps3 for no other reason than for MLB 09: The Show, but I figured I'd try MGS4 based on reviews. I don't mind cut scenes, but I've never played any other versions of the game and no nothing of the story line...

You'd probably be really confused with a lot of the storyline.

If you have never played a metal gear game you wont understand the story line.I heard MGS4 is very good graphically.I have played all of the old MG games but I haven't played MGS4.The thing with the MG games is that once you beat it the game has no replay value for me at all.

Little Big Planet is the shit.I bought it as soon as I got my PS3.My daughter loves it so if you have kids then thats a plus.I love the game also.It is cool as hell to be able to go online and play on levels that other people have created. Some people have a very good imagination and make some very cool levels.

Guitar hero is pretty cool also.It is on sale for $39 at BB this week. That is for guitar hero 3 or guitar her aerosmith.I just bought them yesterday and the game is very fun but hard at the same time.

Obviously you like sports games.Do you like basketball or football? If so pick up madden and 2k9.Madden is great online,I love playing people online.

Get a shooter.Killzone comes out friday.I already paid for mine so I am set.

Maybe something like GTA4,FC2,uncharted if you like big environments.
Racing games you can get grid,burnout,dirt,GT5 prologue

Burnout Paradise City- Very fun game, lots of free updates available and only $20, can't go wrong. IME you don't have to be a fan of racing games at all to enjoy the Burnout series, they are just a lot of fun(although Paradise City may seem a bit overwhelming at first with its' open format).

Street Fighter IV for fighter- Noone else has mentioned this yet????

Killzone2 if you are a shooter fan- comes out Friday, looking to have a solid single player game and some killer MP action. It also packs the most visual punch of any game this gen on any system(if that matters or not, it's still a very fun game from what we have seen in the demo).

Little Big Planet if you like old school platforming

Guitar Hero is a blast too, I picked it up because my wife really wanted it- the kids all love them on the other systems- and found that I really had quite a bit of fun with it too(even if my son can thoroughly stomp my @ss into the ground :p ).

How about if you've never played a MGS game?

MGS has never had anything better then mediocre gameplay, it's story/cutscene driven, if you aren't a fan of the series I find it highly unlikely MGS4 would give you anything but an absolutely terrible impression.

yeah without ever playing a MG game before you would be lost in the story.
Now if you did play all the old ones then yes it is worth a rent but not a buy.I can't see buying a game which only has good single player and not good MP.

GUitar hero is really cool.I use to laugh at the kids playing it in the stores whenever I would see them because I thought the game was stupid.Well that was before i ever played it.I got the whole bundle of GH3 with the game and guitar for only $15.97 from my local radio shack for the PS3 so I figured if it wasn't any good at least I can get my money back form it if I take it to gamestop.

GH FTW

Thanks for all the replies re:MGS4- didn't mean to hijack OP's thread, but I suppose it's a related question.
I honestly had not read much about mgs4 other than gamespot's perfect 10 review- sounds like it wouldn't be for me though considering I know nothing about the previous games

I like shooters and RPGs, and i might like racing games if i got myself the GT Driving force wheel or something that would work on most driving games on the PS3.

I have never played Madden or any other football video game, although i probably wouldn't care for them, well except maybe Blitz the league 2, but i'm not even sure of that. I prefer to have my games to be where you kill or at least hurt stuff(preferably the former).

Are racing games and sports games fun to play on PSN?

Edit: I don't like Guitar Hero/Rockband type games.

It's still totally different than playing the actually game and getting a connection to the characters.
