What funny quirks does your car have?

Sitting here at work, a coworker and myself were exchanging funny stories about each other's car quirks. You know, the kind of thing that your car does, and no one elses does. For instance, my car ('91 cavalier) has this bad habit of dying whenever I turn off my heat/ac. My coworker has one of the best I've ever heard though. His '87 Lincoln Towncar has some odd electrical problems. Whenever he opens his diver-side door, the radio turn on. I had to see it (er, hear it?) to believe it. hehe

So, just looking for more funny/odd/wierd car quirks to read while I'm trapped here at work (and waiting to go see LotR at 12:01).

My '94 Escort, like most "newer" cars is supposed to be set up so you can't take the key out with the engine running.
Except a Bloomberg lot driver didn't know that when you turn the car off, you have to push the key IN and turn it back one more click to get the key out.
Somehow, he managed to work the key out of the ignition despite this mechanism.

And now I take my keys out with the engine still running. I know some older cars did this, but not so anymore. It's a handy "feature."

my 1981 BMW 320i seems to turn the hazard lights on every now and then.... i'll just be driving down the road (not even hitting a bump) and my hazard lights will pop on... and if my hood isn't pressed in the correct spot.. it won't latch shut.... it has popped up on multiple occassions even on the highway :Q but needless to say.... i love my car 😀

I got a turbo Eclipse and when the car isn't quite warm yet, my blowoff valve (it's releases pressure from the turbo) bleeds a lot of air making a sound that makes my car sound like a spastic blowdryer during acceleration. *BREEEEEEE*
I'm sure there are others out there with similar thing, but it's pretty funny, scares pedestrians and some passengers before I tell them what it is.
It makes the normal turbo whine when it warms up of course... 🙂

Hahahahaha..............That's awesome! 🙂

95 accord. nice and reliable, but once you push the hazard lights on,
it won't come back out until you detach it from the dash and push it out from the other side.
I'd say that's a quirk.

My 1994 Toyota Corolla doesn't like to start every now and then, I'm thinking it's a problem with the starter, turn the key, the dashboard lights light up but the engine doesn't even crank. Then I try again, nothing, wait a few minutes then it starts up. It's happened 3-4 times within a 2 week time span so far.

Fix car = less money = less Hot Deals = Ross on PMS 🙁

<< It doesn't exist. haha-my stupid car and it's quirks >>

hehehe, I'd say that's one helluva quirk 😉

My wife's 94 Nissan Quest is now honking whenever she applies the brake. In the past, the driver's window would roll down whenever it rained. I think its time for a new car? 😱

<< It feels like a boat. '90 Ford Taurus Station Wagon >>

Holy aircraft carriers, Batman!

😉

Actually that isnt that bad. My grandma's Buick, now THATS a boat.

Buick, hah. You should've seen our previous Grand Marquis Station Wagon. Now, THAT was a battleship...

<< Actually that isnt that bad. My grandma's Buick, now THATS a boat. >>

I THOUGHT my Dad's V6 Buick Wagon was a boat. And then my fool 4-banger self stepped on the pedal and was amazed by the force! Still think it corners like a semi, though.

<< my dads old car used to talk to him. i guess that really isnt a quirk, but it was pretty funny. >>

LeBaron?

my car's quirks....uhm the TCC solenoid is on its way out and sometimes the passenger side's window can't be controlled by the driver's door until you open and close the passenger door hard.

oh and the interior lights sometimes come on whenever they feel like it, when you're out of the car. no idea if it's supposed to do that, or what's setting them off . 😀

my 86 crx releases large quantities of smoke when i warm it up. one time these little boys on bikes kept riding through it, they thought it was a lot of fun 🙂
my ac doesn't work if its hot outside, only if its warm.
its near impossible to lock the drivers side door except with the key, and that can take awhile too.
hm. leaks a $hitload of oil...
i'll let you know if i remember anymore

🙂

we should take all of our collective car quirks, and old beater cars and put them together to make one big, nasty, quirky ATOT-mobile 😀

then, just for fun, we could rice it up! hehe

Adam Sandler's song, P.O.S. Car comes to mind. 🙂

My 91 Grand Marquis will sometimes die if the AC is on, with the radio going loud, and the brake being pushed, on very hot days.

My '95 F-350 diesel must be cranked for many minutes before it will start. (Fuel leave the fuel lines after it has been sitting for a while)
