"...you hate EVERYTHING else..."

I'd LOVE a big Mercedes, or those Bentleys. Trouble is, almost ALL cars have become down sized in every dimension. There's no damn elbow room anymore. Feels flippen claustrophobic! Our newer Grand Marquis' are no exception. It ridiculous! :frown:

Jump in the cab of a full size pickup truck. Man, that's how it should be. Lot's of legroom, shoulder room, headroom, elbow room... perfect! I want that feeling in a car, and the only one that comes close today (for a decent price) is the Town Car.

You don't have enough elbo room in a Grand Marquis? How big are you? Holy crap! I think the Maxima has too much interior space for me, a Grand Marquis is like a full size sofa!

I guess I'm the opposite, I like smaller tight feeling interior for the driver.

I ain't big, just used to truly huge cruisers. The G. Marquis are a big disappointment. When you go to exit the car, you have to watch you don't bump your feet against the perimeter of the door opening. The back seat legroom is pathetic. The sad thing is, people accept this as normal anymore. I suppose it's only going to get worse...

My in-laws purchased an Avalon, which is surprisingly roomy. It's holding up well. I could never get used to the buzzy engine, though. It wasn't exactly cheap, and used ones are even worse bang for the buck.

The Avalon wouldn't be a bad idea. The older ones from the late 90's were practically a clone of the Lexus LS, but were MUCH cheaper.

You should see the trunk!

Doesn't it suck? Big American cars shrink, while Japanese econoboxes grow! My world is upside down! :disgust:

Roger that :D, I tested the USS New Jersey and the USS Missouri from 1988-90! ;) Cadillac's of the fleet w/58,000 ton displacement - not much pushes those battlewagons around.

As for a serious rec: I'd go for the Lincoln. Sweet smooth ride, good handling, great looks (of course, one of those statements is an opinion - you choose which one).

Liberal + road boat = chuckle :D

Have you seen the current crop of drivers (wait thats me, but i can drive a large boat)? They can barely manuvoer normal cars, I'd hate to see them drive the boat!

Seriously though, the reason for the decline of large cars are:
a) most people don't really need that space and are satisfied with current mid-size cars
b) gas mileage and efficiency (altho with modern engines and typical driving styles its not really a big concern as it once was)
c) a lot of the buyers are immigrants or citizens who came from nations were small cars are the norm. Full-size cars baffle them!

I'll give an example: In India, you'd have to be fairly wealthy to drive an Accord or Sonata. For one, gas price is insane there! Its about $1 CDN/Liter for them which unproportionaly high for them. Also, its hard to manuever those cars in the cities with the traffic and roads.

I thought he was being sarcastically ignorant. :D

Anybody drive a 740. I hope it's too hard a ride. I don't think I could face Tominator in a Big Beamer.

rbloedow, I think the resale value is too high. The older Q45, edmunds described as confused as to purpose or something like that. I would take a new one, but I don't want to buy new. I got to justify the thing. It will just sit most of the time. I drive one of three other cars locally. I don't know the M45.

I was tempted to get the BMW with a side car, Hay, but not for my Mom. :D

What I really want is an RV but I don't like the idea of commuting in one. The VW based Winnie looks pretty cool. Would be cool to buy up a piece of Oregon and camp out in one on it, maybe even live in it while building a house, solar powered, of course.

Actually I half serious! Look at Skoorb and Mad Indian. They are Canadian. But yeah I was being sarcastically ignorant.
