Can't be a Navigator, Astaroth, I got to get something my Mom can climb into from a wheel chair.

Seen an immaculate notrhstar saville, but edmonds warns of expensive repairs.

Ornery, edmonds recommonds the buick over the town car, but the LS looks rather nice in my opinion.

Anybody rode in the 740 BMW.

The Volvo gets 26 MPG in the regular engine. Not too too bad.

I seen a 95 La Saber for only $4700 that might do. I mainly, I think, really just need cruise since my present biger car doesn't have it and I get sciatic pain holding my foot on the gas for two + hours. I figured comfort would also help. Maybe I should rent something, a BMW 3XX and see how that is with cruise since I'd want to drive something like that locally too.

The used 740's are not as expensive as one might think. Seen um 94 to 97 for 12 to 25 thou. Anybody know how they ride? I like the way they look too. The 500 series might be a better choice and a compromise. Hard to decide. Go real cheep and American or more thrilling and euro or more reliable Japanese. I'll try the lexus too. The hold value too well for my liking though.

Moonbeam, renting a BMW 300 series will not give you any indication of what it's like in a 700 series. The 300s feel... cheap. The seats aren't anywhere near as comfortable, either. Personally, I like the 540i 🙂

I didn't want to rent a 300 to figure out what a 700 would be like. I was just thinking that if I had cruise in a smaller car it might be good enough for two hours pain free, or at least more reasonably so. I want something I can drive that doesn't cause pain on long trips. I might just need cruise and I might need that and luxury too. I like to cross my legs and sit on them when I drive in light traffic.

My parents have an Oldsmobile Aurora, they're sweet cars for the $. You can get new ones for around $40k cdn, which is a nice buy.

IMO, the ride in the 740 is characteristic of most BMW's -- very firm and sometimes a bit rough; not very plush. The Mercedes is a bit better but it still has the very stiff German feel to them.

IMO a Lincoln Towncar is the way to go if you want a plush feel. I loooooooove riding in them. 🙂

amnesiac, here's a best buy from edmunds:

TMV® Dealer Retail:
$11,032 - $12,061
Pros: Classic American V8 and rear-drive layout, considerable interior space, lots of luxury for a reasonable price.
Cons: Lack of refinement, squishy ride unless the optional handling package is ordered.
What Edmunds.com says: Thousands of Floridians can't be wrong! A Lincoln Town Car at Honda Accord prices.

Get detailed pricing for the 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis

They also rate the ford victoria as a best buy.

Uh, there are no Mercury equivalents for Lincoln models (with the exception of the Aviator). You might be thinking about the Ford Crown Victoria and the Mercury Grand Marquis. The Lincoln LS, Town Car and Continental do not have direct Ford equivalents.

volvo has EXCELLENT seats.
and was that s80 you rode in riding on the 17 inch wheels? the ride will be a tad different if you tried the 16" ones.

Don't know the wheel type but it was a turbo and they looked big. I notice edmunds says the suspension is sub par too.

TL: Pros: Excellent value, comfortable front seats, impressive power from Type-S engine, SportShift transmission is fun to use.
Cons: Average interior materials, cramped rear seat room, lacks the panache of some competing luxury sedans.
What Edmunds.com says: Jack-of-all-trades but master of none, the TL provides an impressive mix of luxury, sport and affordability.

I would probably rather get an RL

The Crown Vic and Merc Grand Marquis might be nice, but the Buick LeSabre will get better mileage on the highway. 😉

Did I mention, I kinda like Buick LeSabres? (Well, my GF has a Buick Le Sabre, and I've always liked the GM 3800 series V6 engine. I wouldn't buy any GM sedan with any other V6 engine though.)

Other larger GMs with that engine that come to mind: The Buick Park Avenue, the Pontiac Bonneville, the Olds Eighty-Eight and Ninety-Eight, some Olds Intrigues, the newest Impalas, and many others, I'm sure.

Try a GM vortec powered malibu or monte carlo. good power, comfortable, quite ride, can get mom in and out easily, good fuel economy. Worth a look see, IMHO.😉

LeSabre VS Town Car?

You test drive them and come to your own conclusion. It's the best bang for the buck out there. $10,000 for a '97 Town Car is unbeatable!

We averaged nearly 20 mpg in a healthy mix of heavy-footed urban and highway driving; excellent mileage for a big rear-drive V-8 luxury car.

17mpg City / 25mpg Highway

  • Lincoln sells more than 100,000 Town Cars per year. We are partial to it as well, clinging to it in desperation as the cars from our youth are killed off one by one. If you're in the market for a rear-wheel drive, American, luxury car, this is your only real choice."
Don't look at any Town Car newer than 1997. They put stiffer suspesions on the later ones. The Grand Marquis is NOTHING like the Town Car... NOTHING!

Is this a joke? I can't tell with Moonbeam anymore. I feel like I'm stupid for not getting his sarcasm.

Get a Nissan. Not one conservative on this forum owns one.

Edit: Get a manual unless you want everyone but Laust and Millennium to make fun of you.

Just saw one of the Kennedy clan on Hannity & Colmes the other day. He was yapping about SUV owners supporting terrorism etc.. Then, Sean asked him about carting his skinny ass around the countryside in private jets... that shut him up pretty damn quick! 😀
