What foods should I start stock piling?

Sweet. All we need is for everyone to buy as much food now as possible, especially rice. I'm sure if we do this, the problem will get better.

Dude don't worry; this is America, we produce more food than any other country - that's local. We're also the richest country in the world. We're not going hungry any time soon. Learn to hunt and plant a garden and can/freeze stuff if you're worried; being self-sufficient would be more important in the long run if there were a food crisis. There's enough food on the shelves of all the local supermarkets to last weeks.

I once had a gf named Debbie. That was my nickname for her boobs.

And stock up on bullets.

I was going to post the same thing newb111 after reading about Sam?s Club, Costco limit bulk rice purchases. What I found confusing is that even though there is an economic decrease in consumer spending, why are analysts saying that restaurants are stocking up, w/ less people going out for a nice dinner vs. staying at home and saving a few dollars 😕

I dont know what part of the country you are from bobsmith but around here if we get a forcast for 6 inches of snow people freak out and there isnt a loaf of bread or a gallon of milk to be had for miles. I am in the northeast and 6 inches of snow isnt really a big deal. I bet if a crisis were to develop the food on the shelves in stores would be gone in a day....not weeks....

Too many freakin people in the world right now is the problem.....

Note to writers like Brett Arends...........DIAF!!!!!

Stupid mother %!#@$ing media-hypin' mother !#$%!@#kers!!!

Michigan and yeah, 6" isn't much to speak of. 🙂 I've never seen any shortage of food for any reason. Oh, and my parents have a whole chest freezer packed with elk and venison, so I guess that counts as a stockpile... plus frozen veggies from the garden and canned fruit/jam from the yard.

So maybe people won't be able to buy as much utterly useless junk at Walmart, and will have to spend a bit more on food. Big freaking deal.

Wrong. You should see how fast food flies off the shelves. It doesn't look like much because it gets restocked so fast. With no restock it would be gone within a couple of days.

I'm from a lot smaller town than you! 😛

Oh good fucking grief. People are overreacting and blowing this whole damn thing out of proportion.

Like I said in a thread over in P&N....I'll start worrying about a food shortage crisis when I walk into a buffet and the only choices available are warm tap water a Tic Tac's.

my thoughts exactly!

The main reason for rising prices, of course, is the surge in demand from China and India. Hundreds of millions of people are joining the middle class each year, and that means they want to eat more and better food.

Full circle. American corporations outsource jobs to save money. Doing so, they cut thousands if not millions of jobs, thus lowering the American standard of living while simultaneously raising it in countries mentioned above. Families in other countries with more expendable income demand more of the limited resources we use thus raising their prices which in turn lowers the American standard of living even more. Yep. Full circle.

I feel selfish and hypocritical thinking like this since I'm a first generation Indian immigrant, but hey, Im in America now. There's a reason I left India behind.
