Twinkies... They survive anything...

Oh and as previously stated, stockpile guns and ammo, buy lots of booze, and go blow some cash on some hookers and blow :)

Dude don't worry; this is America, we produce more food than any other country - that's local. We're also the richest country in the world. We're not going hungry any time soon. Learn to hunt and plant a garden and can/freeze stuff if you're worried; being self-sufficient would be more important in the long run if there were a food crisis. There's enough food on the shelves of all the local supermarkets to last weeks.

dude, do you have any clue how much our national debt is??? how can we be even close to being rich with like 75 billion in national debt. that shits fucked up mang

Try over $9 trillion...where've you been?

How much of that is owed to other countries?

I have no idea...when I was a kid, I used to deliver a newspaper that had a national debt clock on the front page - IIRC, it was about half of what it is now.

I remember standing in line at the grocery store on the night of December 31, 1999. There were several customers around me who had their carts filled with gallon jugs of water.

I had to hurry home to watch my computers blow up at midnight.

My family is not exactly going to stock pile a ton of food, but we're going to make sure we have some on hand in case we hit economic hard times. Maybe a few weeks worth of food or something. Being in the midwest, it's probably a good idea just because we could get snowed in for a few days with a bad storm and we live in a small town with the closest grocery store 5 miles away.

go to Aldi's and buy cases of canned goods, make sure the expire dates are 2-3 years from now and buy stuff you can eat cold/no cooking

don't forget to buy more ammo/guns too

Depends on its upbringing and how much its parents loved it.

no really, how long does it last

years, but it still edible, just not tasty, assuming proper storage of course.

I don't mean something to last us through hard times. Just something to help out. Having to spend, for example, $40 less per week for a month on food because we have some in the cellar would be a big help.

I wouldn't mind having enough food to sustain my family of 4 for 2 months but the amount of money it would take to get that much food plus, from what I've read, even most canned food doesn't last more than a couple years. Restocking a $1,000 cache of food every other year would hit the checkbook hard.
