2 different Ebay orders(Leatherman Juice S2,and a Victorinox Outrider SAK) supposed to be derlivered today.(Feb.11,2026.)

All of a sudden I get a email saying they've both been delayed until tomorrow. (Feb.12,2026.)

Stupid USPS.

My guess is they're pretty profitable. At least at the prices they charge.
There are three such laundromats within a mile or so of each other. Two of them are
right across the street from each other.

Yeah, my package got delayed by the USPS because of "severe weather" between here and Florida. Radar looks almost perfectly clear.

If you have the right location, density of people, and good management, you'll make money. Got a place here that has three locations not that far from each other. And they are all a good size.

There's a small casino in the back room, that's where they make most of their money. ;)

Seriously though I do wonder how they make money as even with the money from customers it's not like those machines are being used 24/7 and commercial property taxes tend to be VERY high, like in the 10's of thousands per month range. Then you have all the other utility bills, business insurance etc. And since it's a building that public enters you also have to meet strict requirements like needing occupancy permit, working exit signs, fire sprinklers, fire extinguishers emergency lights, fire panel, chair lift or elevator if there's any stairs etc. Stuff that has to be certified and inspected regularly so you can't DIY as they want professional companies to install and certify it.

The actual act of running that kind of business seems cheap, but it's all that other stuff that's not.
They don't have to actually make money...being a cash business, they just have to exist to launder money from...less than legal businesses. (FFS, didn't you watch "The Accountant"?

I guess I underestimate the amount of traffic they get. Those $10ish loads add up between multiple machines I suppose.
I just looked it up, it costs $22/load. The place is a high end laundromat. Also the company that owns the building owns the laundromat so I guess every time the laundromat pays rent, they're paying themselves.

I was surprised to find that a lot of areas don't have washer and dryer hookups in their apartments. That is such a huge quality of life thing even without the absurd $22 per load cost.

Yeah it's especially common on the East Coast in cities because we are by far the oldest cities and it's been a lot harder to renovate existing structures

Yeah, when I lived in New York we were happy that we lived on the same floor as the laundry. We also had central heating and air which made our place the spot to come hang out.

Wow yeah at that cost I can see it being lucrative. A typical customer is not going in for just one load either.

I imagine its $22 for the largest washers. I just saw it in a local news article. They have different sizes you can use. For $22 I bet you could put two weeks worth of clothes in there and it takes the cost down a bit versus having to do 3-4 loads in a normal size machine. Just for curiosity sake I asked AI to estimate operating costs for a 4,000 square foot laundry facility in a brand new building and it estimated operating costs of $24,000 per month including rent, taxes, utilities, maintenance, marketing, staffing, etc. I guess starting a laundromat is not a small business venture unless you have a bunch of cash.

Going to be a fun time when they pull out a projector for a power point presentation and plug that in too.

Reminds me when we were doing a server deployment and had like 10 Dell Poweredge servers plugged into one outlet. Every time we powered on another we wondered if it would be the tipping point.

Had a great first date last weekend and she is coming to my neck of the woods for date two tomorrow. Been texting a lot and yesterday it got flirty, and basically after the bar she is going to sleep over. Got to talking about some stuff, since after all, it is an open/kink/alternative lifestyle site we met on, and I realized that my flogger and leather restraints would come in handy, and my blindfold too. But I haven't used the blindfold in forever so late last night I decided to be thorough - nope - no blindfold in my box o' fun under the bed. Could not find it. I was like fuck, I have to get it delivered today, because a Friday delivery might come at night when I'm out with her - my deliveries usually come late.

So I had to pay $2.99 for same day delivery so it comes today. And I saw the same one I had bought just like four years ago. FUCK! TWO FUCKING NINETY NINE TO BEZOS!

Well, at least this month of prime I am breaking even from Whole Foods discounts. Cancelled it anyway when it expires.

Yep, signature required - can't even waive it or sign a piece of paper on the door because the shipper insisted. Good thing UPS comes at like noon. lol.

Those signature required packages are always annoying especially when they insist on trying 3 times. If I'm not home the first try chances are I won't be the next 2 if you keep going during work hours! This is where I love working shifts as when I order stuff online I try to time it so it arrives on a day off.

I kinda miss living close to a main UPS distro center, went there many times after work to pick up stuff that required signature.

It's Friday and instead of being able to dress down in the office, I'm in khakis and button up with a sport coat. Have to go to court this morning with my code enforcement staff on a problem property owner...

My FWP is having to work day shift in the office. The constant traffic just annoys me. My back is to the main door and it's just constant people in and out and that door slams every time it closes. It's not a door with a cylinder so can't adjust it either.

I'm just glad I don't have to work this shift that often. I normally work nights and the odd 8h day shift. The 8h shifts are from home.

Dunno exactly what kind of door you're dealing with, but maybe gluing a piece of foam in the frame would dampen it. A piece of high density foam like some electronics come packaged in. The black stuff.

I've thought of that, or some sort of gasket. Will need to analyze the door more during a night shift. There's a camera pointing right at it so can't really do anything too extensive that would make whoever is watching wonder WTF I'm doing. I suspect there is a cylinder of sorts but it's built into the frame somehow, so probably have to take the panels apart to get to it, a bit more involved than I want to get into lol.

I could put a ticket with maintenance but it just feels petty, it's been that way for ages.
