I still did not get around to fixing my snowblower and we have lot of snow coming. It's at the very end of my shed and hard to get to because there's too much stuff in front of it, and I don't have room in my garage to work on it because the ATV is in the way. I wanted to move that to my off grid property but never got a chance to build a shed there. Yeah, pretty serious FWP here. :p
Canukistan ain't 1st world.

I'm looking at new-to-me older units that have up to 32Gb. I gotta have the bigger 17" screen that is no longer available apparently. And I gotta have two drive bays. And it's gotta be quiet.
Thinkpad or Dell Precision, maybe. By the way, I've 32GB. And I was at 95% few days ago. Had to kill Firefox and launch it again to get back to 50% available.

Northern lights are very hit and miss. I imagine they're more common where you are now but they still mostly depend on solar activity.

Managed to catch them at some point this summer.

They should be visible every night but it's been cloudy and/or snowing. I'm up in the Arctic circle region (northern Sweden) which is prime viewing area

I just started playing Stardew Valley. I was on my second day when you get the fishing pole and I somehow managed to lose the poll instantly after the fisherman gave it to me. FML.

Stupid pig (masterator) died. I had a bad migraine, so I put off going to the depot buy a new one. Have another migraine today. I'll go out and get it in a couple of house, the million dollar a pill medication is working. What really bugs me is that I need to shower and shave today to be presentable to the world. Wish I had lower standards.

Last year I took vacation at xmas. We had a storm and we were closed for a few days. I used vacation for time I would have had off with pay anyways. We had a pipe break and I ended up spending the whole vacation fixing it.

This is my first day of vacation for xmas this year. We had a storm and work is closed. I am using vacation for time off I would have been paid for anyways. A pipe broke. Since I had most of the stuff leftover from last year its patched up.

I ordered a keyboard last month. The delivery date got move to December 10th. Then the 14th,, then the 22nd. They cancelled it this morning and told me to reorder. It will take 3 to 4 weeks to arrive.

SIGH...

Wife wanted to take me to a US Formula 1 race in 2023 for my 60th bDay. Most tickets are sold out already. Once race has some tickets left - $3K for the two of us (all events) - absolutely terrible viewing angle. Another has only VIP seating left ($15K!!!!) - prime location. So, @highland145, any clients you need to disappear? Taking bids.

Who showers/shaves before going to Home Depot? I usually go in ratty/stained jeans and a hoodie, which makes it look like I'm in the trades/I know what I'm looking for so the dumb workers don't ask me if I need help every 5 minutes.

I'm putting together the annual Christmas webpage and Firefox is being an absolute dick about page caching. It is caching pieces of the page so that when I upload and check links, I get a page made up of the current and previous versions. How does this even happen? I had an embedded youtube video in an iframe and Firefox threw a security error and refused to embed with some bullshit about not being able to embed if the video was already embedded on another server. Admitting defeat, I uploaded a new version of the video and linked to that. At the same time, I corrected a spelling error on another part of the page. I upload the new version of the page and refresh. Spelling error still showing. Fine. Close browser, count to ten, open browser. Spelling error gone, video error still showing. I open the file in text mode on the web server and the video link is the new one. I inspect source in the browser and the old video link is showing. So Firefox grabbed the new page from the server as evidenced by the spelling correction but still used a cached video link inside the iframe. WTF?

I thought it was just me, but yeah Firefox's cache can be weird. Even when you do CTRL+F5 it still insists on loading from cache sometimes. Annoying when trying to make small changes to the back end code and question if it's actually running the code or just loading from cache. I sometimes have to do a syntax error on purpose to see if I will get an error to confirm it's even loading the page properly.

My computer lost power a couple times today due to wind, and now my grub screen is the ugly default(?) one. I think I've seen this style on distros like partedmagic, but it's usually simple text if it doesn't have the background image. This one looks like a 640x480 blue box similar to old bios screens with the choices listed. Doesn't affect the way it works, but it looks like ass. If it doesn't fix itself, I may have to dig around and figure out what broke.

You are one more data point confirming that Samsung SSDs are not reliable :S
Dunno. I'm not willing to blame this on samsung at this point. Smart data all looks good. Computers generally don't like having the rug pulled out from under them, but grub is a weird place for errors to showup. It's only job is to get everything started to load, and should no longer be in use once the computer is booted. Dunno how it got corrupted. Maybe power glitched a little when I was rebooting?

The SSD lacks the power loss capacitor I think and its firmware must have been refreshing the cells used by GRUB data when the power failure interrupted it. If it's using low quality NAND, the refresh needs to happen more frequently to keep data fresh and avoid data loss due to the cells losing charge with passing time. That's why it's a bad idea to keep TLC drives powered off for long periods of time. QLC is much worse.
