The price of CD playing equipment is through the roof. Thought I could get a 5 disc changer for $100 or less and they're mostly $300 and up. I guess not many companies making them now.

Ordered a lovely end cut teak cutting board from Sur la Table and they packaged it like idiots. It came like this with some paper packing material on top.

But the board was sitting at the bottom of the box fit in really snugly so there was no protection on the bottom, corners or sides.

And this is how it arrived. A third of it literally cracked off.

Sending me a replacement. But what a waste of a beautiful cutting board and resources.

Great example of wood glue's bond being stronger than the wood itself, since nearly all the cracking was through the wood rather than the glued joints.

Yep. DVD players are dirt cheap and you can play CDs on them but you need to hook them to a TV to access most functions. I lived with a bottom of the line Sony DVD player as my CD player for a few years w/o a TV set. It worked okay as I tend to listen to albums straight through anyway and could use the remote blindly. When it died, I went with the player linked below. It's worked well for the past ~3-4 years and sounds better than the Sony did. I guess the DAC is higher quality. My receiver is old and doesn't support digital so the CD player DAC is important to me. If your receiver accepts digital in then a cheap DVD will probably give you decent sound.

Yeah it's crazy how strong a wood glue bond can be. I actually want to experiment with that at some point to see if I can actually make a beam that spans longer than the max length of the lumber I am using to make it by staggering the planks. I've always made sure when I make laminated beams that I use lumber long enough but considering the strength of glue perhaps it's not necessary. I need to actually test it as it would be a neat trick to get spans longer than the lumber I have on hand and allow me to haul shorter lengths like 10'. I eventually want to mill my own on site but still need to buy and haul some over so I can build the initial shop to put the saw mill in.

wife orders a Hoover floor washer. It sits there for two weeks. I try to use it today and I cannot open the waste water tank. Almost broke a nail. Call Hoover, they confirm I am doing the right things and send me to their authorised repair centre. I drive over, the people there didn't know how to open it either and want me to bring a hardcopy of the receipt but cannot receive an email copy. They also said they cannot fix it, it would be shipped back to Hoover and take however long for them to get a replacement part.

Fuck it, came home. Contacted Amazon. The replacement will be delivered tomorrow and I am returning this one.

I was perfectly happy using a stiff brush and soapy water to clean the tiles...

Shit, who'd want to be you?

:p
Your Ma.....nvm
I would totally borrow a million bucks in his name.
I know, right?

And so would someone else, apparently. This was probably self inflicted... .. MUSC wants 100K South Carolinians to join their DNA database. Ancestry, genetic disease research, etc and they'll give you the reports. 3 weeks ago, I went to the MUSC site, went through the links and started the process. Part of it was ID verification....and, as Paul Harvey said....

My two kittiot assholes started spilling their water again. I had it fixed for awhile by putting their bowl in a plastic tub, and tacking it to the bottom of a bookcase. They still fucked with it, but didn't mess things up too badly. They've since learned how to make it a disaster again, and the full bowl in the morning will be empty when I get home from work. I'm running out of ideas. Next attempt will be a wooden frame that fits the bowl tightly, and screw it into the bookcase.

I don't know why they have to be such dicks with the water. They're screwing both of us. I have a mess to clean up, and they don't have water to drink. The solution seems obvious to me...

My laptop has 24GB of RAM. WTF am I supposed to do with 24GB of RAM?

You can open like 10 chrome tabs! Meanwhile at my work they "upgrade" our PCs every couple years and they always ship with 4GB of ram and 500GB 5400rpm drive then we need to request helpdesk to upgrade us to "non standard" components so we can actually do our job. We're at 16MB now with a SSD but it took manager involvement to get us that high.

My current unit has 8Gb and often runs at 70%

It doesn't like 80% and I've had it start yelling at me if I get to 90%

I'm looking at new-to-me older units that have up to 32Gb. I gotta have the bigger 17" screen that is no longer available apparently. And I gotta have two drive bays. And it's gotta be quiet.

Mobile deposited a check, the plan was to use the $$$ to buy the rest of the components for my new pc build (1st in 10 years) But the bank put a 2 day hold on a majority of the monies. I had everything ready to order on Amazon today because it would all be delivered on the 24th. Now I won't be able to build this computer until after Xmas :( HOW am I supposed to survive using this laptop that only has 8 gigs of ram? I feel like I could die...

I still did not get around to fixing my snowblower and we have lot of snow coming. It's at the very end of my shed and hard to get to because there's too much stuff in front of it, and I don't have room in my garage to work on it because the ATV is in the way. I wanted to move that to my off grid property but never got a chance to build a shed there. Yeah, pretty serious FWP here. :p
