OVH Support is pretty much useless. I bought the KVM access for $30 so I can diagnose my server but there's zero instructions on how to access it and they are not replying.

At this point I think I'm just going to order a new server and rebuild everything from scratch. I was due for an OS upgrade anyway... I just did not want to go about it THIS way. All my stuff is down.

I wish ISPs would quit their BS with not allowing web servers at home it would be so much easier if I could just host this stuff here.

Going to guess something in the OS crapped out and crashed, it probably would have been the thing of just restarting the services, but pretty hard to do that when you don't have access...

Was able to force reboot the server as there is an option in control panel, at first it didn't come back and now it did. DNS and ping seems to work, so the OS is somewhat active, but services are not. I almost wonder if the server got rebooted due to a power issue or something and the services are just not set to auto start.... I bet it's something simple, but without remote access I can't do screw all. Lost my 2500+ day uptime figure though.

They finally replied after over an hour, but very vague details. KVM has to be manually setup which makes sense I guess. I just hope they don't send me the info by email because I won't get it....

Spent the day calibrating all my thermometers, starting with a large analog in ice water, which is my reference. 8 thermometers in all, 2 of them are analog.

That was the easy part. After starting that I finally mustered the courage to level my refrigerator. I had replaced its thermostat about 10 days ago. It was a very knarly job leveling it. Meantime I was taking readings of my 8 thermometers every 1/2 hour to hour, or whatever, adding to the data, which I'll use to crunch offsets. 4 of my digital thermometers can't be calibrated, I'll have to affix stickers saying, this puppy is 3.1 degrees low, that kind of thing.

Finally got the fridge pretty level, quite acceptable. Then went for a 5.5 mile skate and prepared the 2nd pizza ever on my new 12" pizza screen. It came out fantastic.

I've got a fucking water leak in my truck. I suspect it's coming in from somewhere around the panoramic moon roof...but I can't find it. I've checked and cleared the drain lines...they're fine., yet water drips out of the A-pillar grab handle.
Local dealership doesn't have a "leak guy," so I have to take it to Tacoma...but they can't get it in until the 16th of December. $70k for a truck...and it leaks.
This is pissing my wife off so much, she's got me looking to trade it in...which if I could find the right deal, I'd probably do. (I have 0% interest 84 months...almost impossible to find that right now.) I'd consider one of the F-150 hybrids with the 7.2kW power source....built in generator...but don't really need one badly enough to justify buying a truck just for that. (I DO need a decent inverter generator...but that's a thread in H&G) The only Mavericks in my area are XL plain-jane models...don't want that...and they're not available in 4x4...which is a must for me.

That sucks ... once it gets wet & moldy smelling in a car you'll never completely get rid of it either.

Could try using something like silicone sealant right over the seam as a temporary fix if you don't have a garage to park it in since its pretty easy to peel off. Can't promise it won't damage the clear-coat though.

Ugh totally not in the mood to completely reconfigure this server. So much crap to setup and reconfigure. Backups only go so far, still need to reconfigure a lot of stuff as config file formats/locations change between distros. And systemd makes everything so much harder, it's just so cryptic.

I hate configurating new servers.

That's my 1st world problem today. ugh what a pain. I've been meaning to write a C++ front end to automate a lot of this tedious stuff but I just never actually do it.

Migrating from centos 6 to Debian 11 and having to deal with all the differences etc makes it hard as I can't just plop the config files in place. Lot of fighting to get stuff to work.

I have DNS mostly working now, but still need to do mail, web, mysql and a multitude of other stuff.

Namecheap's interface for DNS server registration is also very obscure so I don't even know if I registered the new IP properly... Been all day and it has not propagated yet, seems fishy.

Makes it worse that all my stuff is down right now including email... had a failure on my old server. I had been procrastinating migrating it and paying for it now.

That's not a good thing. Tasted like it had been on a burner too long. I thought those days were over, especially in big places. Thermal carafes have been a thing for awhile now, and keep the coffee in good condition much longer.

Back when I was too poor to afford a fix for a roof/windshield leak (and nothing I tried seemed to help) I used a three towel system. On for sitting on to the way to work. One to cover my work pants. And a dry one to sit on on the way home. Hang dry and repeat consecutive days if need be
