Went to pickup chicken strips from Costco. It was on sale but the only variety they had was Whole Wheat. Like I care about the breading being whole wheat...

Happened again... someone got passive aggressive on me for not saying anything back when they said hello while walking.

I just did something really stupid and hope I did not get eye damage from it.

So I'm testing this CCTV camera system my uncle bought from a white van (lol). He was trying to figure out how to get it to record but it has no hard drive in it. Honestly for like $200 or whatever it is he paid, it's not BAD, but it's also not GOOD. It feels super cheap. But anyway I stuck a drive in it and was just fooling around with one of the cameras to test recording and I stuck my eye ball right into it just because it will make a funny recording. Well the IR lights turned on. I forgot about those. As soon as I saw the red it was like "shit!". Basically blasted who knows how many lumens worth of IR directly into my eye ball.

You'd better hope not. I hear the indians have been attacking the wagon trains.

I knew my luck with craigslist/facebook marketplace buyers doing local pickup would run out soon enough. I'm selling something and 3 hours ago a buyer agrees to meet at the library 5 mins from my house. We texted back and forth a few times so they were definitely interested and not just kicking tires. I text them 5 minutes before the time that I'll be there in a few just in case they are running late or changed their mind. Nope... they tell me 2 minutes PAST our meet time "oh sorry I can't make it." I ask "you couldn't tell me this earlier?" and of course get no reply.

I just want to punch people in the face. Thankfully this wasn't a big inconvenience for me. Next time, I'll just wait for a reply to even leave the house.

While we're on this topic - why do people ask "Is this still available" and I instantly reply yes, only to never hear from them again? That's a whole other level of tire kicking - and they can F off.

When dealing with Craigslist a "no-show" while annoying is to be expected a good percentage of the time under the best of circumstances.

Something actually "BAD" happening during a CL deal gone sideways could EASILY amount to a life-changing event that you may not survive.
(or at least wish that you had not... we're talking gimp-level horror!)

Not today, but during my last ban:

Somehow a ton of water managed to be applied to my last water bill. It stands at 898 dollars, which is about 868 dollars more than my normal bill.
I considered the possibilities: Neighbors stealing from my hose, bad meter, leaking under the foundation.

If the neighbors had been stealing, they did a magnificent job of returning my hose to exact same position many many times in a row.
If theres a bad meter the water company is refusing to acknowledge it. So thats a pointless trail to follow.
If I got water eroding my foundation I am screwed, so I'll probably have to kill myself.

If it's leaking at foundation wouldn't it be the line before it hits the meter? So it does not explain the unusual usage. I'd setup a go pro in time lapse mode with a clock next to it, so you can guage how fast it's moving and if it's constant or at very specific times.

I have the option of putting in a meter, I sometimes think of it, but not sure if it's really worth it. I'd pay around $60/mo instead of $105ish, and that $105 goes up by around $5 every year. I don't have a pool, so I don't think I'd ever use more than the preallocated amount if I go with the meter.

I've inquired about items a couple times, and never heard back. One time the dumb fuck relisted with a lower price, so it was still available when I asked. I look at craigslist every so often, but I have little inclination to deal with idiots. It would take something really amazing to get me to make an attempt.

My FWP... I've been down to two cats that I feed outside, and one of them went AWOL a week or so ago. He wasn't friendly at all, and was afraid of everything, but I liked seeing him showup at my backdoor. Spot still comes which is good. She's friendly when she thinks she might get food, but she usually runs if I call her at non feeding time.

Around here, outside cats go AWOL all the time...the coyotes get them.

Since we don't do direct deposit at work i go cash my paycheck each Friday. It's a very simple slip to fill out. List each check(if more than 1), total them up, write in any cash back i want & the total deposit. Seems pretty straightforward to me(and has been for years).
Over the the last 1-2 months though the teller always asks me what i want done. "Are we depositing the whole check?" even if there is a cash amount i want back, or "ok, so you want to deposit the check & some cash back, how much do you want back?"
Then i tell them slowly..."just like it's written on the slip, x amount of cash back & deposit the rest". It's not that hard people!

Probably some stupid rule they have now that they have to ask, because...

Bank tellers are just retail workers.

Our FWP is trying to house train an 8 week old labradoodle puppy. Sometimes he gets it...pees and poops outside...other times, I'll take him outside...he does nothing, comes back in the house and craps on the floor.
We've only had him since yesterday, and I know it takes time...but COME ON!

Wow what is this, the early 1900's? Having a literal pay cheque that you need to actually deposit? lol. Is there a punch clock at that place of work too? :p

When we bought our house almost 3 years ago, one of the small "picture windows" (~30 x60) had a very tiny chip in it...and it penetrated the pane...so the window had lost its vapor seal. I FINALLY called the local glass guy to replace it. He came out over a month ago to measure it, called this morning to make arrangement to come install the unit. ( not replacing the entire window, just the sealed unit)
For some reason, the replacement was 1/16 too thick...so...he reinstalls the old window...and breaks the outer pane that had the tiny chip.
Gonna be at least a week before he can get a replacement from the glass/window company.

Fck! Just got a call from the glass company. They didn't get their usual glass/window delivery this week. Like many industries around here, the window company is suffering from lack of experienced employees...trying to train people who just can't manage to get it right...and lack of truck drivers. (I have a hard time understanding that one...driving truck is a pretty decent job.)

Maybe it's time for pay cheques to start keeping up with inflation and for companies to pay more. Lack of employees seems to be a trend. Even lot of fast food workers are throwing in the towel and quitting. I think covid layoffs gave lot of people time to reflect on their lives and they decided not to try to find more work again. Especially having to start over from the bottom.

It's mostly just effecting the service industry and restaurants in particular. Not all restaurants either, just particular ones.

Highest-hit occupation by COVID was line cooks, while restaurant and bar owners were at the forefront of the "re-open all the things" protests. So basically everybody in the restaurant biz lost friends to the pandemic, and nobody is interested in working for employers who not only underpay you, and probably steal your wages/tips but also apparently will kill you to make money. Fuck 'em.

So I found CenturyLink’s number and called. After the third or fourth stupid question from the automated voice menu I tried “technician” and it worked. The technician was fairly with it but not used to the idea of physical line problems so he had to run through a laundry list of tests before, forty-five minutes later, concluding that the problem was the physical line. The line was installed when Lyndon Johnson was President. After that, setting up the service visit was straight forward. Then an hour after the visit was scheduled, CenturyLink’s automated system sent a text telling me that all was resolved and that the ticket would be closed unless I told them to leave it open. Glancing up at the modem told me that the automated system is full of shit so I kept the appointment. The system warned me that they would bill me if nothing was really wrong. I’ll take the risk. The issue is that we have bonded two line DSL and one of the two lines is dead.
So…

The tech came out and started testing the line from the central office. Everything is perfect, no issues. The tech tells me this and asks what I'm seeing. From my end, still one DSL up, one down. The tech comes to the house and tests the lines from my end. One line up, one line down, and based on the signal return for the downed line, it looks like the problem is at the central office. The tech hands it off the physical line folks. The line tech comes out and runs through the same routine: line looks great from central office, not connected from my end.

The light bulb comes on with this tech. The second DSL line is connected to a modem, just not my modem. The tech figures out that another tech was installing DSL for another customer and grabbed the wire to my modem to do it. So the tech unplugs the other customer and reconnects my modem so all is well, for me anyway. :p The tech says that the only way to find out which customer got disconnected is to wait for the service ticket to come through.
