So I went to the grocery store late last night (around midnight) to get some last minute items for tacos. The store was out of regular cilantro so I picked out the organic type, it was double the price. I used it this morning for tacos and that organic cilantro was horrible taste wise. And it was out of green onion too (regular and organic) so I can't cook my home make chicken soup yet.

Speaking of food, I am on call at work right now so I am watching the History Channel and it is showing "The Food That Build America". The show is awesome. It is about how well know large America companies were found. Companies such as Coke (soda), KFC, McD, Heinz (ketchup), Kellogg's/Post (cereal), etc.

The foods that were eaten in America after the Civil War (urbanization) were in horrible conditions and without any oversight/quality control. No refrigeration, no preservatives, nothing but in the containers and sold "as is". Yike.

Back then, any company can make any wild claim about the product(s) such as cure cancer, clean up blood, brain boosting, etc. No national consumer protection agency whatsoever.
My grocery stores have been closed at night, thanks to quarantine.
I should check to see if maybe some of them are starting to open up again.

We used to have a 24/7 grocery store, it was actually kind of nice. Go at like 11pm or later and pretty much be the only person there. Guess that's probably why they don't stay open late anymore, not worth paying staff for a few customers per hour. Then they started closing at midnight, then 11, then 10. I think pretty much everything is closed by 9 now. Even the Shopper's Drug Mart which has always been 24/7 moved to closing at midnight. With covid they close at like 9.

I think part of the reasoning too is the city has become very dangerous at night in the past few years so it's for the safety of employees that they close stuff more early. Even Tim Hortons pretty much locks their doors by 9 but keep only the drive thru open.

Speaking of crime, our building got tagged again last night lol. Brand new paint job too.

We can't control the hvac anymore in our office as they put an automation system and the A/C setpoint is a tad low, but I don't really want to complain because I rather it be too cold than too hot. So I turned on the stand up humidifier (no water in it, so it's just a fan pointing up) blowing over the thermostat sensor, which usually tricks it into thinking it's a couple degrees cooler as it brings air from the floor and pushes it up. Instead of simply stopping the A/C, it turned on the heat. lmao.

Got ranch dressing today to eat with carrots. I never buy dressing, but I've been in the mood for ranch lately. Wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Not an improvement over my usual salt, and less healthy :^(

I very much enjoy ranch dip with carrots. Ranch dressing is usually too thin and runny.
Dill ranch is amazing on carrots and celery.

I work for company A but support company B, all from home. My company A issued laptop automatically connects to the A network without a VPN (don't ask me how). Even the WIN10 logon is connected to a sync'd password after simply turning it on. Outlook & Skype connect right away.

I typically VPN into company B which briefly disconnects me from company A Skype & Outlook, but it always reconnected to them after a minute. Over 2 months ago, Skype stopped reconnecting after the VPN connection was made. I open a support ticket with Company B who keeps looping me around, and claims it's not their VPN, although there's a bunch of certificate expiration notices I keep getting. After a month, they force close my ticket saying Company A is supposed to take care of this since it's their laptop and an issue with Skype. Meanwhile, early on in this process, company A claimed they work the same ticket number but never call me about it. They still close my ticket. So it's been a fricken nightmare to deal with this whole thing getting nowhere. I'm on the phone right now with company A support with yet another shitty accent I cannot understand that well, and the connection itself is shitty too. I'm about to blow a gasket with this 3rd-world support, and all over a fricken Skype issue that I barely use - and only to show my company I actually am present at work.

Yeesh that don't sound fun at all. I have a particularly hard time understanding accents I think. Part of it is probably not great hearing in general (I like to use subtitles on TV so I don't have to turn up the volume), but it's not just that.

Thankfully the past few times I've dealt with some sort of customer service the accents haven't been very strong, or non existent actually.

My "fml" today is last night was I think the least amount of sleep I've ever gotten before work. No more than 2.5 hours and probably closer to 2. Wtf is wrong with me? I just stayed up late dicking around, as usual, then when I got in bed I still did my usual reading in bed on top of that, and it ended up being quite a while, like 45 mins. I mean I love reading, but still. Durrrrr

One benefit working from home during this: can usually take a short nap if I want.

I sometimes operated the front desk at one of the large offices for a major international corporation and I often fielded calls from people with very hard to understand accents. I recall once when someone with a very thick African accent of some kind and I couldn't understand a word he was saying even though it was English. It would be someone else's problem if I could just get him to the person he wanted to talk to, so I asked him to spell it out. I thought I understood a letter or two but it quickly devolved. After thinking "Huh? 'Eh Pose Trough' are not letters" for all of one second, I suddenly realized he was trying to day "apostrophe," which narrowed down the possibilities real quick. :)

Sounded nothing like "apostrophe" and even his pronunciation of letters was unintelligible. My coworkers couldn't believe I understood that... and neither could I, really.

Can't lay my hands on the title to the Honda. Occurred to me that the same for the 2010 RAV. Must have put them in the safe deposit box. Why would I have done that? It's a PITA.

Had my kitchen window open because I like having some summer sounds coming in from outside when it's nice and warm outside. It gets dark late in the evening in Scandinavia, so I forgot the window was open. I go and close it, and look around for any stray insects that made it inside, seeking the light. I see nothing, so I return to the glow of my computer monitor.

Then a bit later I go back to check the tea pot to see if there's any left - there wasn't any, but I feel a lump under my foot. I reach down and pluck the lump from my sock, thinking it's some piece of food which must have bounced down on the floor. It feels unusually large and...locomotive!

Uh oh. Bug alert!

Looking at what's inbetween my pinched fingers, knowing already what I'll find, I see it's a fecking stink bug. Big green bastard too! Jeeezus...

And since I trapped it, it's busy stinking away like crazy. I go out on the outer walkway of the apartment block and toss it. When I come back inside I feel something crawling on my arm. It's that friggin' bug again! It somehow flew back in an instant and settled on me and stunk up my arm too. Jeeezzzzzzuuusssss.....!

I go outside and toss it again, permanently this time.

The smell isn't horrific exactly. But it's certainly...interesting. And pervasive! I washed vigorously with soap and water, didn't do ziplock to get rid of it.

Was working chest today and I just can't seem to get it focused on my pecs, even though I've been working out for damn months.

For chest fly I think I do a decent job, it's easier to isolate my pecs in that movement, but for the typical bench press I keep using my shoulders tons.

I was doing the chest press on a machine today for one of the exercises and goddammit my shoulders were burning at the end of the set instead of my frickin pecs.

I've watched a bunch of chest workout videos on YT, with all the tips, pull your shoulders back/down, push out chest, pinch shoulder blades together, etc. I dunno I just can't seem to get it.

Probably doesn't help I went 37 years with the physique of an extra from an Auschwitz film, so my mind-muscle connection to most muscles is rather horrid. Hopefully it gets better.

So I decided to do some quick groceries on my lunch break and I wanted to buy a birthday card for my nephew who is turning 18. I got home, started putting groceries away... and the card is nowhere to be found. No idea what happened, it must have fell out of the bag on the way to the car, or maybe it never even made it to the bag and I left it at the cash. Also did not realize how freaking expensive they were now until I looked at the receipt. 9 freaking bucks down the drain!

Greeting cards are too much these days.
If you have a printer I recommend you make up something on your home computer and have a little fun. Its also more personal cuz you did it yourself.

Yeah I often consider just making my own tbh. But then it would be seen as me being a cheap bastard. :p I guess if I get some decent cardstock paper it would be doable.

Will go to the grocery store tomorrow at lunch and tell them what happened and hope they just let me go get another. I just hate the fact that the money is basically lost. Maybe it stayed at the cash and they will remember me, so it might not even be a loss for them. But even if it got lost, they might just write it off. Sometimes smaller stores can be reasonable like that. Worth a shot.

I'm taking the eight hour HAZWOPER refresher online. For this class the instructor decided to tape it as a conversation with a second person in the studio. The second person will occasionally ask a scripted question. The person has the trapped coyote look. "Eight hours, I can do this. Only 7:50 to go. Oh god! I could strangle myself with the mic cord. I could strangle him with the mic cord. 7:48 to go."

I used to hate those retraining days. Maintained HAZMAT/HAZWOPER certification for 15 years. Saw a lot of changes in the standards and requirements... ut it was always in-person classes. I finally got tired of doing the clean- up jobs and let it expire. The union hall kept calling me with jobs...and offers of refresher courses. o_O

Anyway, for me, my FWP of the day is the damned Samgung refrigerator...again. Defrost mechanism keeps malfunctioning. I tore it apart a couple of months ago...THOUGHT I had fixed it without parts... No such luck. I ordered the parts and finally received them. Now I gotta go through the 2 day process of thawing it out before I can start the repairs.

You know it's a bad day when you ask your wife to change the channel to Hallmark Christmas in July.

She's been watching Chrisley knows best.
