I had to cancel my second credit card in a month due to fraudulent charges. The first time was 1200 at best buy and then someone ordered take out twice on one of the cards. I don't get it. We don't buy online from anywhere shady and I checked our computers and they are all clean as far as AV can tell.

Probably a data breach somewhere else.

My grass started to grow too it's crazy how fast it starts without any intervention. I didn't even rake yet. Trees are starting to bud too. I think summer is finally here, but I may have jinxed it by putting away the snowblower and shovels.

My mom got hit several times in a row, I think her info got leaked somewhere or something. She's one of those "I have nothing to hide" people who don't care about surveillance and will gladly install stuff like Facebook messenger and other hardcore privacy breaching apps so may have gotten her info compromise through one of those channels.

Facebook Messenger is no worse than any other Messenger. The reason you think it's particularly notable is because of a bunch of morons on social media who had no idea why it wanted access to the microphone (for voice calls), camera (sending photos and video chat), etc. Even the location features make sense... it prompts me for location permission when I temporarily share my location with someone in lieu of an ETA.

No doubt, they are as bad as any other company with the info we give them, but Facebook Messenger wasn't some scary line they crossed like everyone made it out to be in their anti-Messenger campaign back when Facebook first spun off the app. They were genuinely confused why it might need those things and instead of looking for obvious answers they assumed the worst and campaigned against it on social media. It revealed their ignorance more than anything else. I'm not saying Facebook can be trusted with your data, but don't fall for the bad framing about Messenger. It was no more nefarious than it was when it was part of the FB app.

These people never used the features or never understood that you need to request access to the microphone to make calls and voice chat in FB Messenger. It isn't for listening to you discretely. The camera permission is for sending photos and videos along with video chat. It isn't for spying on you. They made it out like asking for these permissions were inexcusable when, in fact, it was required for the base functionality you expect.

It seems like gas pumps are vulnerable to card skimmers. I see news stories occasionally from local gas stations.where they found them.

Anyone else hate the current state of two factor auth? Why can't there be a standard? Everybody seems to do their own thing and require to install some stupid app. I need to do something for work and they require us to login to this system that uses two factor auth and now I need to install some app on my personal phone. WHY?! Why can't they make this stuff simpler instead of requiring an app for every system? Why not use text or at least make a standard so that I only need 1 app and not a billion different ones.

I can't "just use [program of choice]" because not every site uses that particular app and won't always offer a choice.

And let's not get into the fact that this stuff is not really easy to backup. What happens if you lose your phone or get a new phone?

SQRL to the rescue?

Are skimmers still a thing?
Yep. Last summer someone had the balls to put them on the ATM at the bank!!! Luckily the cops got them before too many people got taken.

I can see that since they are outside and easily accessible. ATMs tend to be indoors and the doors lock at a certain time. Though we used to have lot of 24/7 ATMs here but all the homeless go inside at night so they close them now.

I feel that would be something easy enough to repair, did you take it apart to check why it's not working? Maybe something loose for the heat element or a fuse or something. Probably less trouble than returning it and waiting for another one.

Amazon is pretty good for returns though I feel they would take it even without original packaging, but you'd have to check with them.
Naw I don't feel like dickin with it, and I have zero electrical knowledge. It appears to be a sealed unit actually, maybe you could pry it apart but maybe it would break.

I'm just gonna go back to my Mr. Coffee warmer. It's not the best for bigger mugs, which I mostly use, but it was like a tank and got a bit hotter actually.

I need to get a new mattress.

I got the Zinus Green Tea 10" memory foam mattress (my first memory foam) a couple years or so ago and while it's cured my lower back pain in the morning, it's just too frickin hot.

It's normally at 70 or 71 in my apartment and parts (back or side, depending on how I slept) of my t-shirt will be damp with sweat after only a few hours of sleep. And I'll have the covers pulled back, down to my waist. Not comfortable at all.

I like the memory foam but I need one that's actually breathable, as I'm assuming that's the problem here.

There are many cool mattress pads and mattresses. They are not cheap.
Or rather if they are cheap, they arent any good. Dont economize here, trust me.

Taking Ruckus to the vet this morning. He puked and pissed in the carrier and I can’t do anything for him. He has also moaned and cried the trip. He made it to within a mile of the vet office before puking.

Two things you should NEVER try to cheap out on...your work shoes/boots...and your mattress.
You spend too many hours in one...and not enough in the other.

Never teach you wife how to turn on the water in the basement!

Gate valve on the water inlet to toilet tank gave way. Shut the water of last night but showed the missus how to turn it on since she gets up earlier than me.
This afternoon (yeah, lazy ass) I stop and tell her I'm going to the hardware store and show her the valve. While I'm out, she needs to use the bathroom and does. Because she's a female, the idea of not flushing causes panic, so she goes downstairs and turns on the water. I get a call of the way home from the hardware store - you need to buy a shop vac we have a flood......I purposefully married a smart woman, what went wrong :(
