made $250k in the stock market in a couple of weeks by shorting oil during this pandemic.
lost $200k in the stock market a couple of weeks later.

Brightside #1:
i'm now still eligible for Obamacare subsidies.

Brightside #2:
I'm now still eligible to get the $1200 virus stimulus payout when i file 2020 taxes in April 2021.
(not eligible right now due to 2018 and/or 2019 tax returns)

Holy crap how much money did you have to begin with? I'd be happy to win 1000 on the stock market lol. I can't afford to buy the big stocks though only been buying penny stocks. Have to buy 100 at a time with the broker site I'm on.

I got two mines I'm counting on in the future though, but I could not afford to put as much into them as I'd like to so returns won't be that big even if stock goes up.

I doubt that Neiman Marcus will go out of business. They'll probably close more of their stores and do more business online, though.

Honestly, that's probably the path for most retail that isn't Target or Walmart.
There's high probability Neiman Marcus could/will go bankrupt this year. They missed their bond payment this week.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...t-as-potential-bankruptcy-looms-idUSKCN21Y27F

https://www.wsj.com/articles/luxury...t-starting-clock-on-restructuring-11587047670

Which is why I decided to use the Neiman Marcus gift card while it still had value. The gift card value most likely will go to $0 if NM goes through bankruptcy court.

Sorry man, the decision to add hemp to Dr. Bronner's soaps ruined them.

Why's that? I vaguely remember reading about it. I think they added hemp for coloration, and to make it truly "natural". I believe they previously used caramel to color it.

They added hemp because there was a "hemp is the miracle ingredient that cures cancer, clears up acne, makes your bowels move right, and your children smarter" craze going on. It altered the smell.

Got a virus in my email, it's an ISO file, oddly. But they did something crafty in the email, I'm not sure what, but if I try to delete it, it just locks up the whole mail client.

Going to have to edit out the email manually in the mbox file. Just hope it didn't load anything on my machine. I didn't actually open the attachment but it looks like it must have some kind of code that executes when you try to delete it.

Wife wanted another $2,300 Salvatore Ferragamo handbag. I had $600 gift card from Neiman Marcus from like 4 years ago so I tried to use it online towards the purchase. System said it was unavailable. It turns out the gift card had expired. I didn't know Neiman Marcus gift cards could expire. Neiman Marcus is sending me replacement $600 gift card in the mail but I won't get it for like 3 weeks and wife wants a new bag today. So I ended up ordering the handbag without being able to use $600 gift card. Which means my wife will get another handbag or something else from Neiman in the future. Provided NM doesn't go out of business.
Your wife is sick. You really should spend the money on getting her help.

Woah how did you manage to come up with that kind of money? Lottery win? I can only dream of ever having close to that money in liquid. I don't think I will make that in my life time unless I get some kind of big win, either lotto or some of the stocks I do have. But they would need to get huge since I only have about 2k into them.

Spending that kind of money on a purse NOW? I was wrong, you're both sick and need help.
Now is good time as ever. I'm not suffering financially. This is not the first or the most expensive purse she's bought. She has closet full of these types of purses. And if the new purse brings her joy, then it's worth it.

We're all at different places financially in our lives. This is first world problem thread. Don't judge others when you don't know their situation. Especially the way you judge.

The grocery stores sell reusable bags that are a couple bucks and you can fit way more in those than a purse! Best value per volume imo.

And I feel bad for spending over a grand on 2 4k monitors and accessories to go with them. (mounting arms, cables etc). :p

Ended up buying a new GPU too since my current one has issues with my DP adapters... so went with one that has two HDMI.

I really should not have spent that money though, considering I have like 12k on my credit line. I don't think I'll pay that off any time soon I just don' t have enough extra income after all the bills come out. I will either just keep making small payments, or roll it into the mortgage when it opens in 2 years or so. The interest rate is low anyway so I'll just keep paying what I can on it. Probably the best approach. I just hate having long term debt like that.

A lot of places are banning reusable shopping bags because of the virus.

Had a whole bunch of Cheez-It Snack Mix, then I had some cookies, then some peanut butter. Now it's almost dinner time so I'll have to almost force myself to eat.

Right now yeah, I'm sure it will come back though, hopefully.
I hope not. I reuse disposable plastic bags for liter and trash. Also, they are a byproduct of oil production so they aren't really green since it wouldn't reduce oil production at all and they'd just have to find another use for something so cheap and plentifu they already can't find enough uses for it (or else the price would be higher).

Even the FUD about how they last hundreds of years is played up. They always neglect to say that they mean it "lasts" ...as detectable molecules. Everyone knows that a weathered plastic shopping bag will flake away into mostly inert dirt when you try to pick it up after it spent months in the summer sun and rain.

The problem is the micro plastics as yeah it might break down a little but not really fully. Bags are not the only culprit, all throw away plastic is. This eventually ends up in the ecosystem over time and in the ocean too and eventually inside animals, and even humans. This will start to cause all sorts of serious health issues as our bodies (us, and animals) can't break it down. Even most water filtration processes can't really break it down, and some might slip past the filters. Body can't easily get rid of it and it just starts to fill your fat cells including brain. Lot of animals are found dead full of microplastics. Bigger animals, with bigger pieces of plastic. Bags are not the main culprit for the larger pieces though but they are still terrible.

I use them myself for litter but just because there's not really any other solution. To avoid using too many I just use a small bucket as a trash can and only throw out the bag when it's full. Garbage bags are another whole issue too, that is a lot of plastic and they tend to be thicker. Society really needs to move away from disposable plastic, it's horrible. Straws have been demonized, but it's all throw away plastic really. And don't get me started on water bottles, most stupid thing ever. At least they are recycled most of the time, but still.

This isn't about envy it's about pity. Conspicuous consumption is not only a disease, it's ugly.
