Dimensional lumber isn't the listed dimension. I know it, but it irritates me every time. I got a shore jack that takes a 4x4 as a post. I didn't know how much to short the dimensions, and didn't feel like looking it up, so I milled my 4x4s exactly 4x4. Too big of course, so I had to beaver it down with a chainsaw. Shit's retarded. Dimensions should be what's on the sticker. Imagine if everything was sold that way. You paid for 1G gas, but we're only gonna give you .9G cause fuck you.

And when working on old buildings, the dimensions are accurate so replacing rotten lumber is a pain.

Yeah has to do with the planing process, but why can't they cut them bigger then plan them down to the advertised dimensions? On similar note, why can't building material sizes be switched to a metric system? Would make everything so much easier. Imperial is old school and it's time to switch to metric!

Imperial is bullshit; just as stupid as Roman numerals. You have to do math before you even get to the math you want to do.

We should just switch to binary. Only have to worry about two numbers, 0 and 1, makes everything so much easier. "What size wood do you need?" "I need a 0x0 and a 1x0, both 0 long." "Coming right up!"

No spots left right in front of the restaurant. I had to park two rows further.

Those 3-1/2 X3-1/2's were 4X4 when they were milled...then they were dried and just like cotton clothes...they shrunk.

I decided to stop using Dropbox because I was nearly out of space on the free version (though I did free some up), and I can't install it on more than three devices, which I want to do. I was just going to go to the paid version because I've used it for probably almost a decade and really like it, but I feel the cost is more than I want to pay so I looked into alternatives.

I was going to do OneDrive but decided on Google Drive instead just because I think it might be slightly more "supported" in different things (like at Staples you can go to their printers and print stuff from your Dropbox; things like that).

Well dang. I think Dropbox has an interface and simplicity that's a million times better than Google Drive. I think I finally figured out how to mirror files like Dropbox would do. But that's after uploading my set of folders multiple times and having duplicate copies and not understanding what "My Drive" was as opposed to "My Computers" and yadda yadda. I miss Dropbox but oh well.

Maybe I'll still look into OneDrive just for poops and giggles.

Imperial is bullshit; just as stupid as Roman numerals. You have to do math before you even get to the math you want to do.

I've had most of the metric/imperial conversion factors in my head since childhood (having gone to school in a country that started enthusiastically going metric in a fit of pro-EU modernity, then lost motivation half way through and has ever since been stuck inbetween the two, mixing-and-matching both systems, in roughly the same proportion as the Brexit/Remain vote).

I still think of human weight purely in stones and lbs, and human height in feet and inches. Weights of food are in kg and grams, however (if I ever turn to cannibalism, I'll have to convert between the two - fortunately I remember 2.2 lbs in a kilo).

Long distances for travelling purposes are in miles, short distances for furniture and other measurements that aren't people, are in cm and meters. Temperatures are Celsius (Farenheit temps mean nothing to me), power usage is in Watts, energy in joules unless it's about food in which case it's in calories.

My biggest problem with imperial is that I can never, ever remember how many yards there are in a mile.

How the heck does anyone remember the number is 1760? (I just looked it up) What kind of stupid arbitrary number is that?

This is how I used to have to remind myself yards in a mile (pre-internet, when it wasn't easy to look it up),

1 mile = 8/5 km = 100x1000x8/5 cm = (100x1000x8/5)/2.54 inches = (100x1000x8/5)/(2.54*36) yards = 1750 yards

(Though it's actually 1760 yards, because mile to km isn't exactly 8/5).

Entirely the wrong thread for it, but just finally discovered (thanks, wiki) _why_ the number is so random-seeming. Apparently it's becuase the Anglo-Saxons originally used a different 'foot' that was 10% longer. The foot got shorter but the furlong, and hence mile, stayed the same, so number of feet in a mile went up 10%.

IT upgraded my work computer and moved me to Office 365. Now the default location for saving files is f'in' OneDrive. I f'in' f'in' hate OneDrive and furthermore, company policy dictates where we save files (very structured system) and OneDrive ain't the place, ever. The default can't be changed so I have to navigate back to the proper drives every freaking time.

Office 365 keeps posting notifications telling me to download language support for languages I'll never use. F'off is a natural language command that MS chose not to implement.
GD it! The IT folks updated something and OneDrive has woken back up. How hard is it to fix the image before pushing it out?

What the F is wrong with Microsoft? I type HSA into Excel. It corrects it to HAS. I go to the dictionary and add HSA as a legit word. I enter HSA. "I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that." HAS.

I don't have thise issues with libreoffice, and when I doubleclick my volume icon, I can set it to do anything I want. MS issues are a third world problem.
